Bleach: Rebirth of Souls release date, platforms, and story arcs info

Bleach Rebirth of Souls with Ichigo Kurosaki

Bandai Namco just announced Bleach: Rebirth of Souls, alongside a trailer of which story arcs it will adapt.

The Bleach franchise boasts several video games, much like its shounen compatriots One Piece and Naruto. Of course, nearly a decade removed from the manga’s end, the video game adaptations have become scarce over time. The ceiling has largely been Bleach characters appearing in larger crossover games.

Characters from Bleach did appear in various crossover games throughout the years, such as Jump Super Stars,  J-Stars Victory VS, and the notorious Jump Force. Recently, Bleach fans got a break thanks to the adaptation of the long-awaited Thousand-Year Blood War arc. With interest renewed in the franchise, Bandai Namco announced a brand-new action game.

Bleach: Rebirth of Souls release date and platforms info

Bleach: Rebirth of Souls does not have an official release date.

Despite the two-minute trailer, Bandai Namco did not include the announcement with a release date. The trailer did show off the game’s story and gameplay. Veterans of Bandai Namco anime games will be unsurprised to find out the game is an arena fighter.

Unlike more traditional fighters like Street Fighter and Tekken, these anime games tend to follow simpler, arena-style combat. The quality of these titles varies greatly depending on how much of the story they cover and their production values. The trailer shows off some high production values and even confirms an English dub.

Bleach: Rebirth of Souls will be playable on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Tamsoft is developing the game, and fans reacted positively to the news since it worked on the much-praised Captain Tsubasa and Senran Kagura games. Bandai Namco did not confirm a Switch port for Bleach: Rebirth of Souls, though that may come in the future.

What story arcs does Bleach: Rebirth of Souls cover?

The trailer shows story elements up to the Arrancar arc.

Bandai Namco did not reveal how much of the manga the game will cover, but it’s unlikely to cover the whole story. Bandai Namco tends to split adapted stories across multiple games. The Naruto: Ultimate Ninja series is a continuing testament to that.

After the critical flop of Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash, which was panned as a roundly awful arena fighter, shonen fans are more wary of Bandai Namco’s offerings. Fans hope the seasoned developer will provide an excellent entry into the Bleach video game library.
