Fortnite V-Bucks can be used in the shop to purchase skins, emotes, and seasonal battle passes, but can you gift V-Bucks in Fortnite to a friend? Yes, but not as easily as players might hope.
Unlike many free-to-play titles, Fortnite is quite generous with its in-game currency. While the easiest way to get V-Bucks is by purchasing them, players can also earn some by grinding through the battle pass. Even the free battle pass offers 300 V-Bucks, which can be saved up and used to purchase a premium battle pass or limited-edition skins that would otherwise cost real-life cash.
Since V-Bucks are easy to earn for those who religiously play the game, some veterans may have thousands of in-game currency stacked up and may want to gift them to friends. Though players can technically purchase V-Bucks for each other, it’s not something that can be done in-game.
Can I gift a friend my V-Bucks in Fortnite?
Unfortunately, it’s not possible to directly gift V-Bucks from an account to other players in Fortnite. There are other ways to spoil a duo partner, but V-Bucks are non-transferrable between different accounts.
While this might be frustrating, it helps Epic Games avoid what could otherwise lead to a massive botting epidemic, where fake accounts grind the battle pass in order to stockpile and sell V-Bucks. It would also open the door for other potential issues seen with platforms like Steam, such as shady skin trading hubs.
Players who enjoy playing Fortnite but don’t care about skins, and those who bought V-Bucks but stopped playing, can only sit on their digital money. Active users do have a way to gift their friends, though.
Can I buy V-Bucks for a friend?
Players can buy V-Bucks for a friend by gifting them items directly from the Fortnite item shop.
Here’s how:
- Go to the Fortnite item Shop
- Select the item you want to send as a gift
- Click on the “Buy as a Gift” option
- Choose the friend you want to send the gift to
- Confirm the purchase
Before sending a gift to a friend, make sure you have enabled 2FA and that your Fortnite account is at least above level 2. It’s also worth noting that you can’t send a battle pass as a gift.
Alternatively, if your Fortnite duo happens to be a friend who lives in the same region, you can buy them a V-Buck gift card from a brick-and-mortar retailer. V-Bucks gift cards work on a code system. After being purchased, players can reveal the code on the card, and then give it to a friend to redeem. The code on the card can be redeemed on the Fortnite website and add the V-Bucks to their account.
While many small online retailers sell V-Buck cards with redeem codes, there’s a risk of getting scammed. It’s best to stick with either directly purchasing gift cards from a retailer or using the official gifting system created by Epic Games.
