A new trailer for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 showed off the game’s multiple multiplayer modes for the upcoming title including both PvP and co-op.
It’s been over a decade since the first Space Marine launched in 2011. The game was praised for giving weight to the Space Marines, the hulking power-armor-wearing giants of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Space Marine understands how to make a player feel powerful, and the upcoming sequel seems to follow the same concept.
Space Marine offered gamers endless battles, action, and war. However, thanks to the excellent game pace and powerful weapons, the experience felt great. Space Marine 2 offers more of that power fantasy, precisely what fans wanted. The new trailer revealed during the Warhammer Skulls showcase event shows off the multiplayer modes included in Space Marine 2, and the selection is impressive.
Space Marine 2 boasts 6v6 PvP mode
Space Marine 2 brings a 6v6 player vs. player mode, pitting 6 Space Marines against 6 Chaos Space Marines.
The new Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 reduces team size by two players but expands on the modes. The first game had two teams of 8 players fighting against each other. The third-person action game will also feature class-based multiplayer fights. There are six classes to choose from here, from the tanky shield bearer to a stealthy sniper. There is a class for every playstyle. However, it will take a lot of work to camp on the map, thanks to the fast combat.
Space Marine 2 at launch includes three PVP modes: Seize Ground, Capture & Control, and Annihilation. Players can customize their Space Marines to their heart’s content. Tinkering with helmets, belts, greaves, and changing colors and designs of power armor is possible in Space Marine 2.
Co-op PvE modes also return in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2
Space Marine 2’s story campaign offers three-player co-op mode and separate “Operations Mode” PvE missions.
Space Marine 2’s story campaign can be played with up to two friends in its entirety. The inclusion of friends will make mowing down hoards of Tyranids a joy. It seems the bug-like Tyranids will use swarming tactics to take down the Marines. However, with the aid of two additional players, the odds will tilt towards the Space Marines decked in power armor.
While the hoard mode from the first game is gone, another mode takes place. The Operations Mode will give objectives and missions to the players in a PVE environment. The same classes available in the PVP multiplayer mode will also be selectable in Operations Mode. Marine customization will also be persistent among both modes. Saber Interactive is going all in with the multiplayer modes on Space Marine 2, which will be released on September 9, 2024.
