Netherrealm Studios has finally revealed gameplay for the next Mortal Kombat 1 DLC character, Peacemaker, alongside the Janet Cage Kameo.
Mortal Kombat 1 has been a massive success for Netherrealm Studios and WB Games. As of November 2023, Mortal Kombat 1 has sold over 3 million copies during its two months in the market. With the other media branches of Warner Bros struggling to turn a profit, gaming might actually be a lifeline for the company. Mortal Kombat 1 was a big part of that, and stands as one of the top-selling games of 2023.
The company is also looking to keep that gravy train rolling with the Kombat Pack DLC. The DLC contains multiple guest characters from franchises like Invincible, The Boys, and the DC Cinematic Universe. Seeing iconic characters duke it out with the cast of Mortal Kombat is a surefire draw, and Peacemaker continues that trend.
Peacemaker brings guns, quips, and freedom to the Mortal Kombat universe
Peacemaker is confirmed as the next Mortal Kombat 1 DLC character and fans got a good look at him with a gameplay trailer.
The teaser for Peacemaker showcases quite a bit of the violent vigilante’s moveset and presentation. Although some fans feared the worst and assumed he would be a zoner like Red Hood from Injustice 2, Peacemaker gets up close and personal in many of his moves.
Fans of John Cena will be happy to hear that he’s personally voicing the character. After all, Arnold Schwarzenegger did not reprise his role as the Terminator in Mortal Kombat 11. Antony Star, the actor who plays Homelander in The Boys, also stated that he wasn’t voicing the sadistic superhero in Mortal Kombat 1. The longtime face of WWE isn’t continuing that trend however, and will reprise the role he filled in both Suicide Squad and his standalone spin-off series.
Will other DC Comics characters appear in future Mortal Kombat 1 DLC?
The contents of Kombat Pack 2 have not been revealed, but there aren’t any strong indications that there will be.
Each Mortal Kombat game in the modern era has had two Kombat Pack releases during its lifecycle. Mortal Kombat 1 will likely follow that same trend. However, Netherrealm Studios likely won’t announce anything until the entirety of Kombat Pack 1 is on the roster.
A data mine revealed dialog lines for characters that are yet to be included in either the base roster or Kombat Pack and while there are guest characters likely to be added in a second Kombat Pack, speculated names include the T-1000 Terminator, Conan the Barbarian, and Ghostface from Scream. Ermac, Homelander, and Takeda are the final three characters for Kombat Pack 1.
Peacemaker arrives in Mortal Kombat 1 on February 28, 2024, with Kameo Janet Cage coming in March 2024.
