Destiny was banned on Kick; here’s why and if it’s permanent

Live streamer Destiny on a podcast

Steven “Destiny” Bonnell, a popular political live streamer, got banned from Kick for the first time in his Kick live streaming career and fans are wondering what he possibly could’ve done that was bad enough to warrant this.

The Nebraska native joined Kick in 2023 after numerous scrapes with Twitch’s community guidelines, resulting in a permanent ban from the platform. Since then, the political commentator has done much of his streaming on Kick, a platform that has become a landing spot for many infamous streamers. Though Kick has been praised for its technical side, it’s been intensely criticized for its focus on gambling and permissiveness with dangerous content.

While Twitch hands out short bans regularly for unclear reasons, as seen with the likes of Novaruu and Fandy was recently removed, Kick doesn’t. Kick has historically accepted content that includes encouraging violence and putting others in harm’s way. So what could Destiny have done to get banned?

Why was Destiny banned on Kick?

Destiny was banned on Kick for “hate speech” according to an official message from Kick.

Kick hasn’t publicly announced a reason for the ban, but Destiny revealed the company’s notification on X. This includes what appears to be an official email saying, “Hey Destiny, your account has been temporarily suspended due to a breach of terms of service. Reason – Hate Speech.”

On July 17, 2024, fans discovered the ban when Destiny’s Kick channel was inaccessible. Visiting the channel yields a generic 404 error notification. This is different from Twitch where a banned channel will give a notice that its content is unavailable. Destiny was unrepentant regarding the suspension, and effectively mocked it on X.

As for what he actually did, it’s not entirely clear but the ban comes after discussions regarding the attempted assassination of presidential candidate Donald Trump. Though Trump survived, one person was killed and others were injured. Regarding the person who was killed, Destiny said “f— the dude.” He then said he would “make fun” of any his followers who were hurt or killed in similar circumstances.

Is Destiny permanently banned on Kick?

Destiny’s ban from Kick is temporary and will expire on July 31, 2024.

Unlike Heelmike’s ban from Kick, the political streamer will be back streaming on the platform soon. The political personality revealed that his X account has also been demonetized.

He shared a screenshot of the development explaining why his X account has been paused for ad revenue. “Your account was found to have violated our policies,” said the official X statement. It’s unknown whether Destiny’s X account will be reinstated.
