Dragon Age: The Veilguard eventually forces players to defend Minrathous or Treviso, and both choices have their own consequences and rewards.
BioWare’s games are known for having players make difficult decisions. From choosing between two potential companions to deciding whether the player wants their character to be seen as a hero or tyrant, many in-game relationships have been permanently destroyed thanks to a handful of wrong decisions. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is no different in this regard as it also makes players make various decisions.
While some don’t have major consequences like choosing which character should stop an ancient Elven God’s ritual, deciding between protecting two cities is a different matter. There’s a lot on the line with this decision, so which is the right one?
Rewards and differences between choosing Minrathous or Treviso in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Rook’s relationship with characters and factions will change based on whether they choose to save Minrathous or Treviso.
Before anything, it’s important to note that both cities will survive regardless of the player’s decision. However, there are long-lasting ramifications.
For starters, players must discover all the fast-travel locations of the destroyed city again. Additionally, not only will the ruined city have fewer merchants, but multiple side quests and companion quests related to the city will permanently fail. While these are the city-related consequences of choosing one city over the other, the choice also affects the player’s relationship with certain companions.
Choosing whether to defend Minrathous or Treviso to defend is a major decision in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The main difference is that choosing to save Minrathous sours Rook’s relationship with Lucanis and the Antivan Crows while defending Treviso angers Neve and the Shadow Dragons.
However, the correct option is subjective. It boils down to which city the player likes more and whether they want to stop their relationship from souring with Lucanis or Neve more.
Can you still romance Neve after choosing to save Treviso?
While Neve will still be romanceable if the player decides to defend Treviso, it’ll be much harder than usual.
The companion who gets angered by the player’s choice becomes hardened for the remainder of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. A hardened companion could potentially be advantageous depending on the player’s playing style. Whether it’s Neve or Lucanis, the hardened companion won’t use their healing skills on the party. However, their cold and necrotic damage against barriers will increase in turn.
Additionally, improving Rook’s relationship with a hardened companion becomes painstakingly slow. It’s recommended to gain favor with both companions before proceeding. This ensures the player can get the most out of their quests.
