Players can farm legendary fish starting in the Stardew Valley 1.6 update, and here’s how to do it.
Fishing is one of the most surprisingly lucrative solo activities in Stardew Valley. After Willy’s surprisingly somber introduction, the player can start fishing their heart out. With the lack of resources and farming infrastructure in the early game, fishing can become the workhorse method of making money in Stardew Valley.
Eventually, late-game players may not have the time to make money from fishing, given how time-consuming the process is. With the Fish Pond structure, players can still gain benefits from fish they catch passively. With the 1.6.9 update, players can finally add legendary fish to their ponds.
Can I add legendary fish to fish ponds in Stardew Valley 1.6?
Players can now add legendary fish to a fish pond in Stardew Valley 1.6.
Although regular fish can have up to 10 of the same type in one pond, legendary fish are limited to just one. Legendary fish can produce legendary fish roe in fish pond. Legendary Roe, naturally, nets much more money than typical fish roe.
If players want a legendary fish roe farm, then the key is creating multiple fish ponds.
No more than one Legend or Legend II fish can live within the same fish pond. Fish ponds aren’t the fastest moneymakers, but their real value comes from the rare items they spawn. Here’s a table of the best fish for a fish pond in Stardew Valley 1.6:
Fish | Rare Resources |
Legendary Fish I and II | Legendary fish roe |
Blobfish | Pearl, Warp Totem |
Super Cucumber | Iridium Ore, Amethyst |
Lionfish | Taro Tubers, Tiger Slime Egg |
Lava Eel | Gold Ore, Spicy Eel, Cave Jelly, Magma Geode |
Squid | Squid Ink |
Rainbow Trout | Rainbow Shell, Prismatic Shard |
Spook Fish | Treasure Chest |
While the spawn chances are relatively low, they are all passive rewards. Simply check every day for spawns once a fish pond has been cultivated. Remember, only one fish type can live per pond. For players with the space, it’s best to have multiple fish ponds ongoing. Thankfully, other than requiring certain items to “level up” its population, fish pond maintenance is hands-off.
Is Legendary Roe worth farming?
Legendary Roe is one of the most expensive goods in Stardew Valley, which may make getting it worth the player’s time and effort.
The sell price roe itself starts at a whopping 2,530g, and aging it doubles that price to 5,060g. Fully aged roe with the perks to increase artisanal goods’ sell price bumps this up to 7,084g. While Stardew Valley players can simply cheat their way to riches in 1.6, those playing it straight are paid for their efforts.
The entire process of leveling up the fishing skill, catching a Legend or Legend II fish, and getting roe from a fish pond is a lengthy one. Doing so does promise a large windfall to the player, though.
