The June 7, 2024, Summer Game Fest stream revealed Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s release date and fans can’t wait to get their hands on what some call Budokai Tenkaichi 4.
Many Dragon Ball fans owe the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi games for introducing them to Toriyama’s Saiyan-filled universe. With over a decade since the last Budokai Tenkaichi game, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is the much-awaited next entry in the Budokai Tenkaichi series with more modern graphics.
The official Summer Game Fest X account confirmed that Sparking Zero would be present during the June 7, 2024 livestream, and that’s exactly what happened. The stream revealed new gameplay for the game, but the most important tidbit of information given during it was Sparking Zero’s release date.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero release date confirmed
The release date for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is October 11, 2024, and it is now available to preorder from some retail stores.
The Summer Game Fest kickoff stream had multiple game announcements and reveals, and the Sparking Zero release date was one of the bigger ones. However, some fans already saw the signs that the release date would be soon. While marketing material appearing at retail was a sign Sparking Zero was on the horizon, something else pointed a bigger arrow at an October release date.
Mined data from the official Bandai Namco website leaked that Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero would be released in October 2024. Additionally, as every Budokai Tenkaichi entry has been released in the first week of October, fans expected Bandai Namco and developer Spike Chunsoft to keep the tradition going.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero platforms
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is confirmed for the PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and Windows platforms, although a Nintendo Switch version is still in the air.
While a PS5, Xbox, and PC version was to be expected from a modern console game, some fans wonder if the game will be released on the Nintendo Switch. While most modern Dragon Ball games get Nintendo ports sometime after their initial release dates, a Switch version might get announced soon.
On the other hand, there’s also a chance that Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero might be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 instead. As the game isn’t coming to last-gen consoles either, the base Switch might not have the capabilities to handle a modern Unreal Engine 5 game.
