The Summer Game Fest kick-off event revealed the release date and platforms for the Harry Potter-based Quidditch Champions.
Warner Bros Games unveiled the first look of Quidditch Champions in April 2023. Not much was known about it other than that it was based on the Harry Potter universe and was to focus on the in-universe sport Quidditch. That changed during the June 7, 2024, Summer Game Fest event.
In addition to revealing the exact release date for Quidditch Champions and giving fans information on what platforms the game will be playable on, the trailer also revealed which subscription it’ll be playable on day one. Surprisingly, it isn’t Xbox Game Pass.
Quidditch Champions release date revealed at Summer Game Fest
Quidditch Champions is set to be released on September 3, 2024.
Unlike Hogwarts Legacy, a completely multiplayer-free standalone experience, Quidditch Champions can be played solo or with friends and family. While the game isn’t strictly multiplayer-only, the official FAQ page reveals that players must have a constant internet connection to play it.
As the name suggests, the game focuses on Quidditch, a sport hailing from the fantasy world of Harry Potter. In it, the players use magic and familiar sports mechanics to score more points than the enemy team, not too different from real sports like soccer and basketball.
Quidditch Champions platforms confirmed
Quidditch Champions will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store
While it’s unknown whether Quidditch Champions will be on Xbox Game Pass, the official release date trailer revealed that the game will be available from day one on PlayStation Plus. The game will be one of multiple games available to claim for PS Plus subscribers and even the standard edition is enough to claim it on the first Tuesday of September.
The fact that an Xbox Game Pass release wasn’t confirmed doesn’t bode well for this, however. Fans still have some time to hold out hope, though.
Is Quidditch Champions canon?
Developer Unbroken Studios or publisher Warner Bros Games haven’t suggested Quidditch Champions is canon. However, in-universe characters appear in the game.
While the controversial creator of Harry Potter JK Rowling apparently doesn’t have any direct involvement with the game, characters from the books and movies are present. The likes of Ginny Weasley, Ron Weasley, and even Harry Potter were present in the Summer Game Fest trailer.
Additionally, leaked content from an August 2023 playtest apparently revealed Harry Potter and Ron Weasley to be playable. However, Warner Bros. swiftly took the leaked content out and it’s unknown if the fan-favorite characters will still be playable as the official trailer only showed custom characters and Ginny Weasley.
