Kadokawa Corporation has revealed a new Elden Ring webtoon titled Elden Ring Become Lord is in the works after an underwhelming response to its comedy manga adaptation.
The announcement of a new Elden Ring manga adaptation comes as a pleasant surprise to fans who have been eagerly awaiting more content from the game’s universe. Since its release in February 2022, Elden Ring has become a cultural phenomenon, captivating players with its intricate level design, challenging gameplay, and haunting landscapes.
In terms of print media, Elden Ring has received one manga adaptation at the moment titled Elden Ring: The Road to the Erdtree. The manga currently has 39 released chapters so far and it tries to interpret the journey of the tarnished protagonist in a unique and funny way. Fans have been yearning for something more serious and true to the soul of the dark fantasy game and it seems that Elden Ring Become Lord will give them just that.
When will the Elden Ring Become Lord webtoon start?
Elden Ring Become Lord will begin serialization starting from March 29, 2024.
The webtoon will be available in full color on Kadokawa’ Tatesc Comics, as well as in print and across various e-book stores in Japan. The webtoon will be drawn by Hand Punch, who is best known for Emotions Evolution. This new Elden Ring manga will also apparently tell the story of the game as it is, according to the story summary on Famitsu.
“The grand adventure of the action RPG Elden Ring is now available in full-color comic. The story follows one of The Tarnished who, guided by blessings, reached the Lands Between and sets out on a journey to become the next Elden Lord,” the summary reads.
There are also some teaser pages on Comic Walker where fans can check out the art quality but the text is only in Japanese for now.
There’s no word on whether the webtoon will be released in languages other than Japanese, but Kadokawa states that the Tatesc Comics project aims to “strengthen the distribution of award-winning works in various languages and to expand the reach of TATESC COMICS worldwide,” so fans may get an official translation. The Elden Ring: The Road to the Erdtree manga received both an official English translation and even a print release, so there’s reason to be optimistic.
The announcement of the manga comes shortly after FromSoftware gained independence with Elden Ring from now-former publisher Bandai Namco. As the main shareholder of FromSoftware, Kadokawa has previously told shareholders that it plans to push for more multimedia projects around the Elden Ring IP.
The Elden Ring Become Lord manga could be a step forward in that multimedia or “media mix” direction, and there have already been reports of other FromSoftware IPs like Sekiro getting an anime adaptation. this means that there could be wave of Elden Ring content coming in the near future.
