Igon was one of the most heavily memed parts of the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, but that’s largely thanks to how his quest is downright epic.
Shadow of the Erdtree puts a greater focus on its NPCs than any other FromSoftware project in recent years. The characters wrestle with their motivations and have to sort out what they want to do after being strung along by Miquella. It’s a story packed with shades of gray and questions about motivations and morals.
That’s not the case with Igon, though. Igon really, really hates Bayle the Dread and would do anything to kill him. But how can players help him complete this quest when they meet him on the ground, missing his legs? Here’s the full walkthrough.
How to complete Igon’s quest in the Elden Ring DLC
Completing Igon’s quest requires players to venture to the Jagged Peak to kill Bayle the Dread.
While some NPC questlines in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree are long and branching, Igon breaks the mold. Not necessarily in a good way, though. Here’s the step-by-step process for Igon’s questline:
- Meet Igon near the Pillar Path Waypoint site of grace and talk with him
- Reach Jagged Peak
- Find Igon high up the Jagged Peak
- Talk to him to receive Igon’s Furled Finger
- Defeat Bayle the Dread
- Return to Igon’s location
Players find Igon near the Pillar Path Waypoint site of grace, right near where they first discover major main quest NPC Thiollier. From there, players have to make their way to the Jagged Peak. This is done by defeating the Ancient Dragon-Man, then heading through the back of his cave. From there, it’s a linear but treacherous path to the Jagged Peak.
Near the top, players can find Igon once again. He remains maimed and furious, willing his soul up the mountain and giving the Tarnished his finger to summon him for the fight against Bayle the Dread. Players can continue through Jagged Peak to the crater that makes up the southeastern reaches of the Land of Shadow.
Unlike most summonable NPCs, Igon is summoned within Bayle the Dread’s boss arena. This is extremely helpful, as it prevents Bayle from receiving the HP boost that bosses get when summoning help before entering the arena. This means that there’s no drawback to summoning Igon, as he is only capable of helping.
Regardless of whether players summoned Igon for the fight, the story ends for Igon upon Bayle’s defeat. Elden Ring players can return to Igon’s previous location to receive the final reward for his quest.
All Igon questline rewards
Players receive Igon’s armor, his unique greatbow, Ash of War, and his bell-bearing after finishing his quest.
Igon’s armor isn’t particularly remarkable, though it offers above-average resistance for lightweight builds. What’s much more valuable is Igon’s Greatbow and Igon’s Harpoons.
Igon’s Greatbow is a unique greatbow that gets a damage boost when shooting Igon’s Harpoons, special great arrows that deal 30% higher damage against most dragons. The kicker is the Igon’s Drake Hunt Ash of War, which can be taken out of his signature bow. This Ash of War lets the players yell and unleash a powerful arrow that deals major damage.
With or without Igon, players receive the Heart of Bayle item, which offers a unique Dragon Communion spell. Regardless of whether Igon plays a role in this quest, this is a worthwhile reward on its own.
