Fear and Hunger 2: Termina forces players to make some very difficult decisions and that starts by choosing the best character for them. Which is the right choice, though?
The Fear and Hunger RPG series is often compared to Dark Souls and Elden Ring. There’s a debate to be had about how true that is, but at the very least it’s true insofar as the opacity of the game’s mechanics and progression. Players have to simply throw themselves against a proverbial brick wall until, eventually, they break through.
One of the biggest components of this is how radically different each playable character is. Fully discovering the usability of each one can take tens of hours. Either that or players can just get a quick answer, right here, about the best characters to play as in Fear and Hunger 2: Termina.
All Fear and Hunger 2: Termina playable characters
Fear and Hunger 2: Termina gives players the choice of eight different playable characters to choose from. Here is the full list of options:
- Levi
- Marina
- Daan
- Abella
- O’saa
- Olivia
- Marcoh
- Karin
Each of these characters can potentially be recruited to the party, but it’s extremely unlikely that players will be able to get all of them in a single playthrough. Even if they do, it will almost certainly come at the expense of saving some other NPC later on. Though Fear and Hunger creator Miro Haverinen has teased an incoming expansion to the game on his social media channels, he has also stated he will not be adding new playable characters for the time being.
The best characters to play in Fear and Hunger 2: Termina
Levi, Abella, and Marcoh are the best characters to play as in Fear and Hunger 2: Termina. However, their greatness varies depending on what ending the player is looking for, what sort of experience they want to have, and their experience with the game.
Fear and Hunger 2: Termina has multiple endings with wildly different methods for getting them. “Termina” itself is a killing game, and players who want to be an active participant will approach things very differently than most. As such, three characters stand above the rest when it comes to picking who to play as.

Marcoh
Marcoh is the best character to choose for players who want a strong, relatively easy playthrough. In terms of pure combat strength, Marcoh is the strongest character in the early game. Choose the following options in the opening in order to get the best possible start for a good playthrough:
- Become a burglar
- Train your stamina
- Specialize in defence
- Get your sister and flee the country
- Stock up on medical goods
Choosing these options will prime Marcoh for a strong start with optimal combat abilities and some extra healing items. On top of that, Marcoh can quickly race to the bunker west of the woodsman’s shack to recruit Abella. From there, players have two strong party members that can sack the Prehevil outskirts area with little trouble.
Marcoh can also offer an explosive early game for an evil playthrough. Choose these options during the introduction for an optimal start:
- Become a pickpocket
- Train your stamina
- Specialize in evasion
- Get your sister and flee the country
- Take your luxury products
On the morning of the first day, make sure to kill Abella in the bunker and use Steal to get the Bench Grinder from her. From there, players can kill Olivia and Marina on the train and then head to the northeast to kill Karin. After, start killing the enemies across the Prehevil outskirts and start collecting heads. After killing these NPCs, Marcoh can craft the powerful Meat Grinder weapon and healing items, and can learn Marina’s magic. This will let Marcoh literally buzzsaw his way through the game.

Levi
Levi is the best character to pick for brand-new Fear and Hunger 2: Termina players if they select the right options during his introduction. Pick these options for the best start:
- Stand up against father
- Trenchgun
- Abandon mission
- Stock up on ammo
Levi has the ability to start the game with either a Trenchgun or a Rifle. Both are extremely powerful, but the Trenchgun in particular lets players shoot down the gate to inner Prehevil right at the start.
After the opening, players should equip the Trenchgun and take down the woodsman by shooting him outside combat. From there, head west to the bunker and recruit Abella.
If players recruit Abella, her Wrench Toss ability can one-shot kill most villagers in the starting areas. Meanwhile, Levi can use the woodman’s axe to deal solid damage himself. They’ll also have the Trenchgun to blast any troublesome enemies before initiating combat.

Abella
Abella is the best character option for players who want a good playthrough of Fear and Hunger 2: Termina with maximum story moments. While Marcoh is strong in combat and lets players quickly get a strong start, he’s also a bigger part of the story than most. Without getting into any spoilers, as an NPC he can have interactions with many members of the cast.
Because of that, if players want to take in as much story as possible, they ought to pick Abella.
Abella doesn’t have quite as strong of an early game as Marcoh, but her default intro gives her the Wrench Toss ability. This lets her kill many of the early-game enemies with a single shot to the torso. The one hiccup is that this requires lots of menu use and picking Abella forces players to go solo for longer than most, as she’s the easiest NPC to recruit to the party.
