Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn pre-orders are open on some online retailers at the moment, but does the game even have a release date yet?

Games inspired by the Soulsborne franchise have been growing in size and scope. While imitators were previously niche, indie releases, Lies of P brought things to another level and will spawn both DLC and a full-blown sequel in the future. The next big release in that vein is Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn.

The reveal trailer impressed many with flashy graphics and an intriguing premise. A44 Games has some experience with Soulslike combat, but it remains to be seen how the studio evolves with the release of Flintlock. Here’s everything that’s known about the game at this point.

What is Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn?

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is an action RPG focusing on brutal combat and exploration. It’s made by the studio behind 2018’s Ashen. Flintlock has seen its release date bumped back on a couple of occasions, with a launch previously promised for “early 2023.”

The game takes in a fantastical world where humans must fight the old gods for survival. It has unforgiving combat that has been likened to a broad number of games ranging from Dark Souls to Devil May Cry. It takes place in a dark fantasy setting, with players juggling both melee and ranged battles with the titular flintlock pistol.

Similar to FromSoftware games, players gain “Reputation” by taking down monsters. This currency is lost when the player dies but can be reacquired after coming back to life. Magic and firearms play an equally important part in the gameplay, and the combat takes some inspiration from Soulslike games. The developers call the combat somewhere between God of War and Elden Ring, two big titles to live up to.

The delay to 2024 will give developers time to “make it the most impressive and unforgettable game it can be.” The title will also be released on Xbox Game Pass day one, making it a risk-free play for subscribers.

Flintlock release date details

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is releasing sometime in 2024, but a definite release date has not been set.

The game is up for pre-order on Best Buy for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X for $49.99. The price is $20 lower than the AAA games charge, reflecting the title’s AA nature. The game will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The pre-order is for the physical release of Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn; the digital pages on both Xbox and PlayStation don’t have the pre-order option.

The listing on Best Buy could be an error. However, Best Buy has a history of leaking games before official announcements. Previously, Metroid Prime Trilogy for Nintendo Switch was also leaked by Best Buy.
