Find out when the Nintendo Direct starts and what will be shown

nintendo direct coming soon

The leaks were right and the date and time for the September 2023 Nintendo Direct have been confirmed.

Over the past week, many leakers have shared rumors about the possibility of a Nintendo Direct happening in September. Nintendo has made it a tradition to have one in that month to highlight games being released during the holiday season. While Nintendo Direct events are always hotly anticipated, reports of a Nintendo Switch 2 and rumors of big games have added extra intrigue.

Since there had been a Nintendo Direct for Super Mario Bros. Wonder on August 31, it raised questions if the company would still proceed with one in September. Now fans know the date and time for the September 2023 Nintendo Direct and it’s just a matter of what’s going to be shown.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a new Mario game coming to the Nintendo Switch.

When is the September 2023 Nintendo Direct?

The September 2023 Nintendo Direct will happen on September 14 at 7 a.m. PT or 10 a.m. ET.

A September “Direct” event has happened each year for a long while, with some years focusing on specific games or consoles. In recent years, a catch-all Nintendo Direct has happened. Leakers and reporters focused on the week of September 11 as the landing spot, which has proven true.

What will be announced during the Nintendo Direct?

Rumors and leaks have hinted that a new F-Zero and Donkey Kong game will be revealed and a Nintendo Direct is the most likely landing spot.

A notable leaker seemingly teased that F-Zero and Donkey Kong will both be getting new installments, which others have seemingly corroborated. Fans are also anxiously awaiting new details on previously confirmed games such as Metroid Prime 4 and an untitled Princess Peach game. Release dates and new reveals for releases like the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC Part 2: The Indigo Disk are also possible.

Other upcoming releases such as Detective Pikachu Returns, the Super Mario RPG Remake, and Hogwarts Legacy will also likely be featured. With Super Mario Bros. Wonder already having received a whole showcase to itself, it might only barely be touched on during the showcase with a new trailer before launch.

Will the Nintendo Switch 2 be revealed?

It is unlikely that Nintendo will officially reveal the Nintendo Switch 2 during the September 2023 Nintendo Direct.

Rumors and reports about a new Nintendo console have been swirling around the internet for years, including a Nintendo Switch Pro and a completely new console. Recently, there have been numerous reports regarding a Nintendo Switch 2 being secretly demoed during Gamescom 2023, as well as a Q4 2024 release window for the console. Despite that, there is no official confirmation from Nintendo about a new console being in development.

A new piece of hardware is an inevitability but a September Nintendo Direct is the least likely destination for a reveal. Nintendo likely won’t want to reveal a new console right before the holiday season where it is likely hoping to sell loads of new Nintendo Switch units and games. Unveiling a new console would likely have an adverse impact on sales, and Nintendo likely won’t want to do this to itself.

When it came to the Nintendo Switch, it was revealed only a couple of months before being available for pre-order with its own standalone event. Realistically, there might not be a word for a while as Nintendo has several major releases queued up.

While there isn’t anything certain about the next Nintendo Switch console, there are still more than 40 minutes worth of new trailers and reveals to look forward to in the September 2023 Nintendo Direct event.
