Fortnite may add flying mounts in Chapter 5 Season 2, here’s why

Fortnite might get flying mounts very soon, and it could change the game entirely.

Fortnite loves its gimmicks, whether it’s a crossover or the addition of new mechanics for specific characters. The game shocked players by implementing a legitimate web-swinging mechanic for Spider-Man. Many stated Spider-Man’s web-slinging in Fortnite was better than that of the critically panned Marvel’s Avengers game.

At this point, it should come as no surprise when Fortnite tries something new. A new mechanic might drop very soon, and leakers teased it as early as 2022.

Will Fortnite get flying mounts?

Epic Games has not confirmed flying mounts for Fortnite, but several reports hint at their existence.

In a recent tweet from Mark Rein, Vice President of Epic Games, he hints that the word for Chapter 5, Season 2 of Fortnite is “Wings.” The theme for this chapter is Greek mythology, which features quite the menagerie of winged beasts. Although vague, fans who follow leaks got excited because it tracks with a leak from 2022.

On September 2022, HYPEX, a notable Fortnite leaker who accurately reported Eren Yeager, Raiden, and Omni-Man for Fortnite before their official announcements, claimed Epic was working on rideable flying animals. Although over a year has passed, their claim may finally come to fruition.

If flying mounts come to the game, it won’t be the first time that Fortnite has featured aerial combat. The game had biplanes that let players engage in dogfights while avoiding the circle.

When will flying mounts arrive in Fortnite?

Flying mounts may coincide with Chapter 5 Season 2’s release, which is set to happen on March 8.

Interestingly, some of the guest characters for this season have iconic flying mounts of their own. Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Aang is reportedly coming to Fortnite and he rides Appa, a flying bison. Jake Sully from James Cameron’s Avatar film is also said to be inbound and he may be riding on his Skimwing instead of the Battle Bus.

With the Greek theme, some potential generic flying mounts will be pegasi, hippogryphs, and dragons. Whether these mounts will be power-ups or unique cosmetics for the Battle Bus remains to be seen. Fortnite has a stacked season of content ahead, and flying mounts only scratch the surface of what Epic Games plans for 2024.
