A rerun for Lyney has arrived alongside update 5.2 of Genshin Impact, and knowing the best build guide may help players make him a powerful bow user in combat.
Known as the Great Magician of Fontaine, Lyney is the twin brother of Lynette and was saved from an abusive noble by their “Father” who turns out to be Arlecchino. In combat, he is a five-star ranged character who fires off arrows that deal both physical and Pyro-type damage. And with his banner rerun in Genshin Impact 5.2, applying the best weapons and artifacts for him can be useful for players who are interested in picking him up and those who already have Lyney and would want to use him in time for the new update.
Here is the best build guide for Lyney in Genshin Impact, including how to play him and the best weapons and artifacts to use.
How to play Lyney in Genshin Impact
Genshin Impact players should play Lyney as a main DPS unit in a team composed of mainly Pyro-type characters. This is to maximize his damage output, which relies on powering him up in the presence of Pyro-type teammates.
Lyney’s normal and plunged attacks all involve the use of his bow to fire arrows. However, his main source of damage is his charged attack, the damage output of which varies depending on the time spent to charge it. If used with charge level one, he will deal Pyro-type damage to the target. But if charge level two is used, he will fire Pyro-type damage courtesy of a Prop Arrow and will also summon a Grin-Malkin Hat as well as having the possibility of gaining Prop Surplus stacks that come from consuming a portion of his HP.
The Grin-Malkin Hat can taunt enemies from within a range and attract their attacks. The taunt to the enemies lasts for five seconds, so it is important to place Lyney’s attack properly in order to also put the Hat in the best position possible. Once the duration of the Hat’s presence is done, it will explode and deal additional damage to enemies with its Pyrotechnic Strike. Also, remember that only one Hat can exist at a time, so make the most out of every opportunity to summon the Hat in combat.
As for Lyney’s elemental skill and burst, both rely on dealing explosive AoE damage using his props. This is mostly for the Hat, but also the Cat for his burst where he transforms and allows him to go mobile and deal Pyro-type damage when moving to enemies. This is also where the Prop Surplus stacks are used since consuming these will increase the damage output that Lyney deals to enemies during burst.
All the best Lyney artifact build and sets
The best artifact build that can be used for Lyney is the four-piece Marechaussee Hunter. Some alternatives, however, can also function if players can’t complete this set yet.
Using two pieces of the Marechaussee Hunter already gives its user an additional normal and charged attack damage of 15 percent. But if four pieces of it will be used, it can greatly increase a certain stat of a character who has the capacity to either increase or decrease his or her HP through abilities. And in this case, it is for Lyney.
Having a four-piece Marechaussee Hunter increases the critical strike chance rate of its user by 12 percent for five seconds whenever his or her HP either goes up or down. This can go for up to three stacks which will increase the maximum damage output of Lyney especially if his attacks that deal explosive AoE Pyro-type damage will be used to enemies.
The four-piece Vermillion Hereafter is the second-best artifact set combination for Lyney. Aside form giving its user an additional attack boost of 18 percent, it can grant Lyney the Nascent Light effect which gives an eight percent attack increase for 16 seconds. Also, the attack will further increase by 10 percent when Lyney’s HP decreases over time and can take effect for up to four times.
The best weapons for Lyney in Genshin Impact
Lyney’s signature weapon known as The First Great Magic is the best option that can be used for him. Another weapon is a great substitute in case that the signature weapon is still not available.
The First Great Magic is the signature weapon of Lyney. It gives a bonus critical strike damage stat of 66.2 percent. It also ties closely with his abilities, providing a ton of synergy when taken advantage of.
The damage dealt by Lyney’s charged attacks hit for an additional 16 percent when The First Great Magic is used by him. Also, his attack and movement speed will increase when Lyney gains the stacks of Gimmick and Theatrics respectively. The catch, however, is that Lyney will only gain the stacks when he has a teammate with the same element as him, which is Pyro. The stacks also increase in number depending on how many teammates with the same element are with Lyney in the composition.
The next best weapon option for Lyney is the Aqua Simulacra. Aside from the 88.2 percent bonus critical strike damage stat that it provides, its user’s HP also increases by 16 percent. A damage increase of 20 percent will also take effect if there are nearmy enemies.
Best teams for Lyney
The best teams for Lyney involves other Pyro characters since his damage increases depending on the number of teammates that share the same element as him.
- Lyney
- Xiangling
- Bennett
- Kazuha
Lyney is the main DPS unit of this team, while Xiangling provides additional off-field damage as the sub DPS and attacks buffs to the rest of the team. As for Bennett, his usual healing and attack boost prowess are here while also being a Pyro-type character. Kazuha, on the other hand, provides crowd control advantage which may reduce the Pyro-type resistance of enemies.
- Lyney
- Dehya
- Bennett
- Zhongli
Another mono Pyro team where Lyney can be used is in a squad where Dehya can be the sub DPS since her abilities and skills often deal AoE Pyro-type damage. This can be a big help for Lyney to maintain the damage output inclined with the said element. Zhongli is also here to provide shields, which can be useful to protect Lyney since his HP decreases as part of his abilities.
