A year and a half after the PlayStation release date, fans will finally be able to play God of War Ragnarok on the PC.
A PC port of the single-dad simulator was expected by many. 2018’s God of War reboot arrived on PC in 2022 and PlayStation has been actively looking for opportunities to release its first-party exclusives on PC. Ragnarok enjoyed critical acclaim and won several honors, including The 2022 Game Awards’ best performance and best narrative honors. Given all this, it’s no surprise that fans have been clamoring for a PC release.
PlayStation confirmed the PC release date during the May 2024 PlayStation State of Play event. And it’s sooner than one might think.
God of War Ragnarok PC release date confirmed
PlayStation will release the God of War Ragnarok PC port on September 19, 2024.
PlayStation confirmed that the PC version would add new to accommodate the new user base. New features include super ultra-widescreen support and “upscaling tech.” PC versions also typically offer greater control over games’ settings so players may be able to wring out more frames per second.
The turnaround from console to computer is relatively quick compared with other ports, but is still long-awaited and long-rumored. The 2018 God of War took four years to be playable on the PC. Others like Horizon Zero Dawn, only took three years to transfer and is Playstation’s most popular single-player PC release thus far. The sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, only took two years and was released in March.
The PC version’s arrival follows the December 2023 release of a major free DLC release for the game. God of War Ragnarok’s Valhalla DLC will be included in the PC version of the game.
While there was hope regarding a PlayStation 5 remaster of the original God of War trilogy, no news on this arrived.
Until Dawn, Concord joining God of War Ragnarok on PC
A number of major PlayStation exclusives are confirmed to be coming to PC.
Herman Hulst, future PlayStation co-CEO, revealed that the company plans to port older games from the PlayStation catalog to PC to encourage players to buy the sequels on PlayStation 5. It comes at a time when AAA first-party games are seeing multi-platform releases, with Xbox committing to simultaneous PC-console releases and even porting games to PlayStation 5.
PlayStation is also releasing online multiplayer games, such as its new hero shooter Concord and Helldivers 2, simultaneously on the PS5 and PC. Console and PC gamers alike will have plenty to enjoy from PlayStation, both before and after God of War Ragnarok’s release date.
