The new Marvel Cinematic Universe movie brings together the merc with a mouth and the mutant with claws to great success. Both characters have been featured in multiple comic book video games for decades. However, the 2013 Deadpool game remains extremely hard to get for modern consoles.
Fans of the humorous mercenary have been trying to play the game for a while. However, it has become nearly impossible to obtain it digitally. The original Xbox 360 copies run well on the new Xbox Series X, but are too expensive to purchase for many. Unfortunately, with no PlayStation 3 backward compatibility, PlayStation 5 can’t run the original release. So can people play this game?
How to play Deadpool in 2024
Unless fans obtain a physical copy of the game for Xbox, there is no legal way to play the Deadpool game in 2024 outside owning the old games and hardware.
The original 2013 Deadpool game was delisted from all digital storefronts due to licensing issues. The game received a remaster for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, but this was also taken down from the PlayStation, Xbox, and PC stores.
However, PC players who purchased the game on Steam can still have full access to it. They can download it like any other game and play it with complete controller and achievement support. Console players can hope that Microsoft strikes a deal with Marvel Comics and get the games back on digital platforms.
Marvel and Deadpool fans can also buy the game in the used market. However, it’s priced high due to demand, which hasn’t been relieved with the recent movie release. There are other games where Deadpool makes an appearance. The excellent Marvel’s Midnight Suns features both Wolverine and Deadpool. Another game, Lego Marvel Super Heroes, is flying under the radar despite being an excellent game featuring both characters. And Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 brings together many of the most iconic Marvel characters for a massive crossover adventure.
Is the Deadpool game coming to Xbox?
The Deadpool video game may return to digital storefronts, allowing it to be purchased in 2024 or in the future.
According to Nick Baker of the Xbox Era Podcast, Microsoft might be working with Marvel Comics to rerelease the video game. The game was made by High Moon Studios, developers of Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, and recently co-developed Call of Duty games. Despite losing all rights to Marvel properties, Activision rereleased the Deadpool game in November 2015.
Microsoft acquired Activision in the biggest and most expensive video game acquisition ever. The company is now rumored to be trying to get Deadpool back on its platforms. If Baker is right, fans could see another rerelease.
