The Nintendo Switch version of Outer Wilds has been in limbo for some time, but a release date and details on the port have finally been confirmed.
Outer Wilds, the game published by Annapurna Interactive and developed by Mobius Digital, was originally released in May 2019. While the Switch version of the game was announced in 2021, it was in a state of limbo until recently. As a leaker spoiled before the event, Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase revealed an official release date and other details on the long-awaited release.
The Nintendo Switch version of Outer Wilds will be released less than a month from now, with more information about the port also coming out. Fans won’t have to wait long, and they’re going to get a heaping helping of extra content.
Outer Wilds for Nintendo Switch release date, price confirmed
Outer Wilds will come to Nintendo Switch on December 7, 2023. There will be two versions of the game, including the base game and the Archaeologist Edition. These versions cost $19.99 and $29.99, respectively.
Although this release will be digital-only, a physical version will be available for players to purchase in 2024. There was a limited-run copy of Outer Wilds available for the PlayStation 4, but those copies are now fairly rare and expensive. Those wanting to fill their physical shelves will have a chance to do so.
The physical release of Outer Wilds on Switch will be handled by iam8bit. The company has created a variety of collectibles, and published limited-edition physical releases for major indie titles including Stray, Untitled Goose Game, and What Remains of Edith Finch.
Will Switch version of Outer Wilds have the DLC?
Outer Wilds: Archaeologist Edition on the Nintendo Switch will include the base version of the game and the Echoes of the Eye DLC expansion. The base game can be purchased, with DLC available separately for $14.99.
For those wanting to buy the DLC at a later date, it is also able to be purchased separately, with the preorder being available right now.
Because the release of the Switch version perfectly coincides with the date of The Game Awards, some fans are wondering if the developers will be announcing anything during the event. With the announcement of both a new DLC for Outer Wilds and a completely new game made by Mobius Digital both potentially on the table, it remains to be seen if anything happens.
