Here’s what’s new in Fate/Stay Night REMASTERED

Saber from Fate/Stay Night

The iconic visual novel Fate/Stay Night will receive a REMASTERED edition for 2024, and fans are eager to see what’s new in the modern iteration of the game.

The Fate franchise is one of the most popular anime franchises in the modern day, and it all began with a visual novel. Fate/Stay Night initially debuted for Windows in January 2004 as an adult “eroge” game with explicit scenes. The story proved so resonant with fans that a wider release, titled Fate/Stay Night Realta Nua, meaning “new star” in Irish, replaced the adult scenes with more story and a complete ending.

Soon, the visual novel received a 24-episode anime produced by Studio Deen that aired from January to June 2006. The adaptation streamlined much of the game’s story, with an increased focus on action and mixing elements of each play route into its story.

Now in 2024, Fate/Stay Night finally debuts on the world stage.

When is the release date of Fate/Stay Night REMASTERED?

Fate/Stay Night REMASTERED will launch for Steam and Nintendo Switch on August 8, 2024. While the original game garnered millions of fans in its own right, it wasn’t without its flaws. That game drew much criticism from some fans for the adult scenes, which came off to some as immature in contrast to the rest of the story.

The REMASTERED edition has the Realta Nua version of the game as its foundation. That means none of the adult scenes will be present, which makes sense given its Nintendo Switch release. Some fans noted that the Japanese livestream claimed the remastered game would be exclusive to digital platforms. Notably, this marks the first official release of the original Fate/Stay Night game outside of Japan.

The game will receive a complete remastering of its many art scenes. Given the game’s nature as a visual novel, this is big news for series fans who are looking forward to seeing the game presented like never before.

Fate/Stay Night wasn’t the only Type-Moon project to receive an English localization after so long a wait. Fate Hollow/Ataraxia, the sequel to Fate/Stay Night, is currently in development for Steam and Nintendo Switch. However, the remastered sequel currently has no release date.

Type-Moon has been slowly localizing many of its classic projects to English. The push began with the remake of Tsukihime, one of Type-Moon’s earliest works. Casual anime fans will likely recognize the franchise for the Neco Arc memes more than anything else, but the remake helped draw new eyes to the classic visual novel. The Fate/Stay Night remaster will likely accomplish the same.
