Legacy of Kain, the long-dormant but long-remembered series, is getting the remastered treatment. The game’s existence was leaked months prior but an official reveal arrived ahead of the September 2024 State of Play, albeit through another leak. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the title, the Soul Reaver remastered will come with plenty of improvements.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver remaster will still center around the conflict between Kain and Raziel. Raziel was betrayed and executed by his master, Kain. Now, he must rise again and go on a quest for revenge. So what’s actually new in the remaster, then?
What’s new in the Soul Reaver Remaster?
The Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Remaster will feature upscaled models, new textures, and improved lighting. This release is set to be a simple remaster, so fans shouldn’t expect anything particularly transformative.
There aren’t any changes to the gameplay or overall game design here. The game is not a remake, so the upscaled textures are the most significant improvement. The frame rate of the new release has not been announced yet, but fans can likely expect the game to be at least 60 FPS on consoles.
The character model seems improved, but no official confirmation of upgrades exists. Overall, the Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Remaster looks a bit better than the original releases. The collection is not like the Until Dawn Remaster that received significant upgrades. Fans expecting miracles out of the Remaster would be disappointed.

The Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Remaster is coming out on December 10, 2024.
Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics are making the game. Aspyr is leading the development of the Remasters. The studio has a strong legacy of remastering classic video games elegantly. Its most recent releases, the remasters of the first three Tomb Raider games, were well received.
The two-game collection is set to release on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles. There is no word whether PC or Xbox will also see the release. The games could potentially run well on Nintendo Switch, but Aspyr or Crystal Dynamics have yet to confirm those platforms. The Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Remaster is up for pre-orders.
