It looks like gamers may finally be getting new Legacy of Kain games with remasters of the first two titles, but
San Diego Comic-Con brought together fans of anime, video games, and comic books for a massive weekend of reveals, cosplay, and exclusive merch. A sharp-eyed fan was looking at Legacy of Kain statues at a booth when they noticed a sign that hinted at a new game in the series.
Legacy of Kain is a dark fantasy action game series set in the land of Nosgoth. The storyline revolves around Kain’s attempt at restoring the earth’s balance. Blood Omen was released in 1996 and the last mainline title came out in 2003. The game’s ending was a bit of a cliffhanger and left fans with many questions. It’s now been over 20 years but it seems the series hasn’t been forgotten about.
Is there a new Legacy of Kain game coming out?
Remastered versions of Legacy of Kain 1 and 2 are coming, which was confirmed at the San Diego Comic-Con.
The San Diego Comic-Con display for the series included a sign near some figures that stated “Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered.” No official sources have confirmed the games’ existence. It’s also unclear who would be working on the games at this point, with Embracer Group acquiring the rights to the series in 2022 and undergoing several structural changes since then.
Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics both have ties to the series and remain in business. The former is doing support work on the reboot of Fable while the latter is working on the new Perfect Dark game.
Regardless, the signs are effective confirmation that the first two titles in the series are getting remastered.
Fans immediately started speculating what this could mean and what new content could come of it. This included the return of the remaining original voice actors and restoration of the cut content found in both games, or perhaps even alternate ending options. Others hoped it would be more than a simple re-release and that there would be a physical version for collectors.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered release date info
There is currently no release date for Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered.
The game has not been officially announced so it may be quite some time before fans get a hold of the anticipated title. Hopefully, an announcement will come out this year so that the new Legacy of Kain game has a timeline of late 2024 or 2025.
