Ahead of the official beta playtest, fans have some idea of how multiplayer mode will work in the Monster Hunter Wilds beta.
The Monster Hunter Wilds beta was announced in mid-October as a first look at the game before its February release date. Within the beta itself, the multiplayer option is available for those looking to tackle the story quest or the Doshaguma Hunt. The staggered release dates also mean that some players will get a head start on those playing on other platforms.
For those looking to test out the multiplayer mode alongside the story beats in the Monster Hunter Wilds beta, here’s what they need to know.
Multiplayer lobbies could contain as many as 100 people
Players in the Monster Hunter Wilds beta can find others to hunt with through the large multiplayer lobbies.
According to the Monster Hunter Wilds beta’s online manual, each multiplayer lobby can hold up to 100 different hunters. Players have the option to either join a recommended lobby based on their previously selected play style and objectives, or search for a lobby that their friends might be in. Additionally, they can choose to enable crossplay with people on other platforms through the title screen.
Monster Hunter Wilds director Yuya Tokuda confirmed that despite the large total lobby size, only 16 users would be displayed at a time in different base camps.
For players who don’t want to wait in the lobby, they can send up an SOS Flare while they’re in a quest. Up to three other hunters or NPCs can join and assist from anywhere. Players also have the option to customize their Member Recruitment Comment in the Quest Counter settings and explain what play style or hunters they would prefer to come to their aid.
Link parties coming to Monster Hunter Wilds beta
In the Monster Hunter Wilds multiplayer mode, players can use link parties to form dedicated hunting groups.
Developers have added link parties to the Monster Hunter Wilds beta, which allows players to join groups of up to four and play together. Link party members can join from any lobby and are able to join or leave at their leisure. Major benefits of forming a link party include:
- Access to a members-only chat and voice chat
- Notifications when another party member starts a quest and the option to join
- The ability to stay together after quests, making it easier to do multiple quests in the same group
- Ease of getting the group back together
To form link parties in the beta, players can go from the Start Menu to Communication, then hover over Link Party and select Invite to Link Party. Party member options consist of others in the lobby, past quest mates, and other people that the player has interacted with.

Once players join a party, they can also link their environments. This allows link party members to explore together in multiplayer but can’t be done while currently completing a quest.
Fans of multiplayer and Monster Hunter Wilds have a lot to look forward to when the beta officially opens. PlayStation Pro members will have access as early as October 28, while other console users will have to wait until October 31.
