All it takes for a player to maximize Lan Yan’s level and enhance her support abilities is a complete set of her ascension materials, but that’s easier said than farmed.
Lantern Rite is just around the corner, and that means a new Liyue character is on the way. After Yaoyao, Gaming, and Yunjin, it’s Lan Yan’s turn to join the action. Coming from Chenyu Vale, Lan Yan is a four-star Anemo support whose abilities center on shielding allies and landing crowd control that rounds up enemies, likely similar to Venti’s burst.
Since she’s a four-star character being introduced during one of the game’s biggest events, there’s a good chance Lan Yan will be free. So, it’s definitely a good idea to stock up on her ascension materials.

How and where to farm Lan Yan ascension materials
For Anemo characters like Lan Yan, Vayuda Turquoise serves as a core material in character ascensions. It is primarily acquired by eliminating particular bosses, forking over resins, and claiming drops from these bosses.
- Anemo Hypostasis
- Tenebrous Papilla: Type I
- Algorithm of Semi-Intransient Matrix of Overseer Network
- Maguu Kenki
- Setekh Wenut
- Solitary Suanni
- Stormterror
- Shouki no Kami, the Prodigal
With enough Dust of Azoth, it’s possible to convert spare gemstones from other elements into Vayuda Turquoise.
Since Lan Yan’s from Chenyu Vale, it makes sense that Clearwater Jade is one of her materials. Clearwater Jade is a local specialty from Liyue, only found in Chenyu Vale specifically around places like Chizhang Wall, Yaodie Valley, Mt. Xuanlian, Mt. Lingmeng, and Teatree Slope. There are 70 pieces available per world, but that might not be enough if players are looking to max out Lan Yan right away. Luckily, they can farm in another world or buy some from Fengtai for 1,000 mora each.
To farm more efficiently, players can use characters with a Liyue local specialty passive, like Qiqi or Yanfei, or utilize the Genshin Impact interactive map.
Gold-Inscribed Secret Source Core is an ascension material dropped by the Secret Source Automaton: Configuration Device, a world boss found beneath Toyac Springs in Natlan. This boss also drops other ascension materials, artifacts, XP books, and mora. Each run can reward 1-3 pieces of this material, and since a total of 46 is required, players should be prepared to spend a lot of resins farming for it
Players will also need to farm Whopperflower Nectar, Shimmering Nectar and Energy Nectar to ascend Lan Yan in Genshin Impact. Travelers could collect them by taking out Cryo, Electro and Pyro Whopperflowers. Alternatively, they can use their Masterless Starglitter to buy some from the Paimon’s bargain.
Everything needed to max Lan Yan’s talents
Leveling up Lan Yan’s talents to 10 requires collecting these items: Teachings of Diligence, Guide to Diligence, Whopperflower Nectar, Shimmering Nectar, Energy Nectar, Unnamed Boss material and mora.
Here are all the materials Lan Yan needs for every talent ascension level.
- Level 2: 3 Teachings of Diligence, 6 Whopperflower Nectar, and 12,500 mora
- Level 3: 2 Guide to Diligence, 3 Shimmering Nectar, and 17,500 mora
- Level 4: 4 Guide to Diligence, 4 Shimmering Nectar, and 25,000 mora
- Level 5: 6 Guide to Diligence, 6 Shimmering Nectar, and 30,000 mora
- Level 6: 9 Guide to Diligence, 9 Shimmering Nectar, and 37,500 mora
- Level 7: 4 Philosophies of Diligence, 4 Energy Nectar, 1 Unnamed Boss material, and 120,000 mora
- Level 8: 6 Philosophies of Diligence, 6 Energy Nectar, 1 Unnamed Boss material, and 260,000 mora
- Level 9: 12 Philosophies of Diligence, 9 Energy Nectar, 2 Unnamed Boss material, and 450,000 mora
- Level 10: 16 Philosophies of Diligence, 12 Energy Nectar, 2 Unnamed Boss material, 1 Crown of Insight, and 700,000 mora
Teachings of Diligence, Guide to Diligence, and Philosophies of Diligence can all be farmed by entering the Taishan Mansion every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday. This talent domain is located near Jueyun Karst in Liyue. Like other Lan Yan materials, farming this talent book will require a hefty amount of resins, especially if players are willing to invest heavily in her kit.
Although Lan Yan’s weekly boss material is still undisclosed, leaks indicate it will be dropped by the new boss coming in version 5.3 inside the new subregion.
Crown of Insight, the last item needed to max out Lan Yan’s talents, is one of the rarest things in Genshin Impact. Since launch, only 60 Crowns of Insight have been available, either through offering systems or flagship events. But with Natlan’s release, players can now buy one each month from Paimon’s Bargains for 50 Masterless Starglitter.
