How to install Seamless Co-op Mod for Elden Ring after DLC

Four players playing Elden Ring co-op

Elden Ring players can install the Seamless Co-op Mod to make the disjointed co-op experience much more enjoyable, but does it work with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC?

Co-op has been a staple of FromSoft games since Demon’s Souls but the feature is more refined and advanced in Elden Ring. That doesn’t mean it’s good, though. Players need to use a Furlcalling Finger Remedy with each death, and a summoned player can only follow for a certain distance and only until the end of a boss fight.

No more Furlcalling Finger Remedies needed.

The Seamless Co-op mod irons out those kinks and makes co-op more akin to a game like Resident Evil 5 or It Takes Two, allowing players to start and end the game together. With the Seamless Co-op mod installed, a player and up to 15 friends can join together and progress through the game. Any progress sticks for everyone, not just the host and players can roam around on Torrent, killing mobs and bosses freely. Most importantly, the host dying or beating a boss doesn’t end a co-op session. Here’s how to install the innovative Seamless Co-op mod for Elden Ring.

How to install the Seamless Co-op Mod for Elden Ring

Installing the Seamless Co-op mod involves placing the correct files at the proper location. Here’s how to do it:

  • Download the Seamless Co-op mod
  • Extract the contents to a folder
  • Move the extracted files to the Elden Ring install folder; it’s usually “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ELDENRING\game
  • Once the files are copied, open the “seamlesscoopsettings.ini” file with Notepad
  • Write a secure password after the “cooppassword = “ line. Make it something unique and safe.
  • Save and exit the “seamlesscoopsettings.ini” file
  • Launch the mod using the “launch_elden_ring_seamlesscoop.exe” file, and you will be ready to play

The Elden Ring Seamless Co-op mod can be downloaded from the Nexus. Users need to create an account in order to do so.

Players need to make sure that they specifically launch the game with the launch_elden_ring_seamlesscoop executable. Launching Elden Ring normally through Steam or another service will not allow players to use the mod.

How to start an Elden Ring Seamless Co-op mod game as a host or co-operator

The Elden Ring Seamless Co-op mod adds new items to the game that allow players to either host or join a co-op session.

The process is largely the same as initiating a regular multiplayer session in Elden Ring. It requires the use of specific items in the Tools menu, but players don’t have to constantly re-use these with every death and with every move to a new area.

Tiny Great Pot Elden Ring Seamless Co Op Mod

To host a game in the Elden Ring Seamless Co-op mod, use the Tiny Great Pot item. players need to use the Tiny Great Pot item. This item is found in the Tools section of the inventory, alongside other multiplayer items.

To join an Elden Ring Seamless Co-op session, players need to use the Effigy of Malenia item. To join a game, players need to have the same co-op password set in the seamlesscoopsettings.ini file on their PC. If players aren’t using the same password, they will not be able to join a session.

How to import characters into Elden Ring Seamless Co-op mod

Players can import a character into the Elden Ring Seamless Co-op mod by adjusting their save files on their PC.

The Seamless Co-op Mod has its own player characters that aren’t usable in the vanilla version of the game. However, players can still import their existing characters into the modded version of the game without much trouble. Here’s how to import a character into the Elden Ring Seamless Co-op mod:

  • Open Elden Ring save files folder
  • Copy the save files to a separate folder or the desktop
  • Change the file extension from .sl2 to .co2
  • Put the files back into the Elden Ring save files folder

For those who don’t know, the default location for Elden Ring save files on Windows is C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\EldenRing\(folder with a random set of numbers). Make sure to have both hidden items and file name extensions visible, as both of these are invisible by default.

Players may also want to back up their regular save files during this process, to ensure they don’t get corrupted or lost. Make sure to copy the files, rather than simply changing the file extension directly in the folder. This will render them unusable in the vanilla version of Elden Ring.

Is Elden Ring’s Seamless Co-op Mod on PS4 and PS5?

The Elden Ring Seamless Co-op Mod can only be installed on PC and is unavailable on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

The only way to play co-op in Elden Ring on consoles is to use the default co-op features. While limited, they still let a friend lend a hand in a hard-to-beat boss fight. It’s cumbersome and can get old fast, but unfortunately, that’s the only way to team up with friends in vanilla Elden Ring.

Does the Seamless Co-op Mod work with Shadow of the Erdtree DLC?

The Seamless Co-op Mod is being updated to work with the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

The DLC was not compatible with the mod in the days after its release, or with the subsequent updates. This forced players to get creative to keep playing with the mod, rolling back the version of the game they were playing.

An update for the Seamless Co-op Mod will be shipped in the future to make it compatible with Shadow of the Erdtree and any updates that follow. Unfortunately, this is standard fare for modding in any game but it’s worth it in the end.
