Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero offers players tons of defensive options, but few are trickier to pull off than Sonic Sway.
With a roster of over 180 characters with more on the way through DLC, the Budokai Tenkaichi successor can get complex in its matchups. Players can choose between aggressive powerhouses like Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta or gimmicky yet surprisingly high-tier characters like Yajirobe.
While learning all the matchups takes a while, some broad defensive options do work for everyone. Among the most effective yet tricky ways to defend against an onslaught is the Sonic Sway. The move instantly disrupts any combo, knocks back the opponent, and drains their ki.
How to Sonic Sway in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero on Xbox and PS5
Players can Sonic Sway by blocking in Perception Stance with circle on PS5 or B on Xbox, then pressing triangle on PS5 or Y on Xbox at the right moment to activate Sonic Sway. Alternatively, players confident in their timing can press the buttons simultaneously right as the opponent’s rush combo lands.
While counters like the Revenge Counter cost ki, Sonic Sway does not, making it handy for players who want to save ki for a sticky situation. Even so, the timing will prove tricky. The best way to practice is by fighting bots and repeating the motions.
How to train Sonic Sway in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero
To train Sonic Sway, players can load the main menu, go into Super Training, then choose Battle Training.
The World Tournament Stage is the perfect stage for close-quarters counter training. While in training, pause the game and open the Training Settings menu. From there, go to Opponent Settings and set their Strategy to Rush Attacks.
There are two ways to train Sonic Sway. The first method involves spamming Circle/B and Triangle/Y while closely observing the moment the counter actually works. It’s messy, but it does eventually get the player’s muscle memory working when seeing how a rush combo starts.
However, that strategy isn’t very effective in a real match when getting attacked with mixups. The other way to train Sonic Sway is while actively guarding in Perception Stance. Generally, the third or fifth hit of a rush chain is the optimal time to activate Sonic Sway.
Whichever method works, Sonic Sway will certainly save many a lost match for skilled Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero players.
