Game Science hit the ball out of the ballpark with its first game Black Myth: Wukong and the popular game is seemingly getting DLC.
Black Myth: Wukong is one of the biggest surprises of 2024, even managing to eclipse other games in the same genre. Fans went as far as to claim it’s a Game of the Year award contender. For a year with games like FF7: Rebirth, that’s a huge praise.
The studio Game Science made its mark with its first game reaching over 2.5 billion concurrent players. While the game is already massive, it might have up to two DLCs planned just months after its release. Fans wonder whether Black Myth: Wukong will really get DLCs and if so, when.
Will Black Myth: Wukong get DLC?
Black Myth: Wukong is reportedly set to receive multiple DLC releases.
In September 2024, leaker Lunatic Ignus posted on X that Black Myth: Wukong would get two DLCs before the release of the game’s sequel. Lunatic Ignus leaked a number of details on the game before its release. They also state that the game was originally planned to be twice as long, with 13 chapters instead of the six that came out. Plans reportedly changed due to budgetary issues.
Regardless of what plans Game Science had for DLC, the incredible response to the game likely recalibrated things.
It’s unclear if these will be significant content expansions, or something else. It’s also unknown whether these will be free or paid.
While Elden Ring’s biggest DLC was Shadow of the Erdtree, it had multiple smaller content updates including the Colosseum Update and expanded questlines for Nepheli Loux and Diallos Hoslow. Black Myth: Wukong’s DLC could potentially be a massive paid expansion or smaller content updates.
The game would lend itself well to built-in challenge modes like permadeath or varied boss rush options. Games like Lords of the Fallen have steered into extreme difficulty. Depending on how far these incomplete chapters were, however, Game Science may be inclined to simply see those through.
Regardless, there are plenty of things on Game Science’s plate when it comes to the game. Alongside the development of any new content will be work on the Xbox version of Black Myth: Wukong, which is still in the works. The exact release timeline for the Xbox port is unknown, but it can be a long wait. There are mixed reports of a PS5 exclusivity deal that has caused a delay in the Xbox port’s release.
