Is Arcane Season 2 the final season? The creators gave an answer

Jinx and Vi about to punch each other in Arcane Season 2

Netflix just dropped a new teaser trailer for Arcane Season 2 and it strongly suggests that this will be the final one for the series.

Arcane’s success surpassed even Riot Games’ wildest expectations. Although League of Legends has always been popular, it only attracted MOBA players. Attempts to attract players through the lore alone have been moderately successful at best. More often than not, it’s existing League of Legends fans who try out its video game spin-offs and read its comic book adaptations.

That all changed with the release of the TV series Arcane. Unlike pretty much any spin-off before it, Arcane attracted people completely unfamiliar with the League of Legends. Its story, animation, and voiceover performances surprised everyone, and its massive success meant a second season was inevitable. However, the second season may be the last.

Is Arcane Season 2 the final season?

Arcane Season 2 will be the final season of the series.

“From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story of Arcane wraps up with this second season,” Arcane co-creator Christian Linke said in a statement.

The teaser appropriately has a melancholy finality to its tone and storytelling, showing Zaun and Piltover gearing up for war.

Vi also seems to have given up on redeeming Jinx and is now committed to stopping her. Finally, LoL champion Warwick makes yet another quick appearance in the Arcane Season 2 trailer. The biggest question is if Jinx and Vi will even recognize their former father figure. While the news saddened Arcane fans, Riot says it’s not the end for animated League of Legends shows.

Will there be other League of Legends shows after Arcane?

There will be more League of Legends adaptations coming soon.

“Arcane is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and partnership with the wonderful animation studio that is Fortiche,” said Linke.

It’s always possible that Riot Games and its broadcast partners will decide that there’s too much value in the “Arcane” name to drop it entirely. Regardless, Arcane Season 2 is set to be the final one for Jinx, Vi, Jayce, and Viktor. He emphasizes that there are many stories they want to tell in Runeterra. Riot has given all parties plenty to work with.

Many fans want to see regions like Damacia, Noxus, Bandle City, and Icathia. Some of these have already been teased within Arcane’s first season, most notably Noxus where Mel and Ambessa both hail from.

There are over 100 League of Legends champions, with each having backstories. That means there’s no shortage of material for new adaptations. However, these spin-offs may have to wait a while. Riot’s partner studio for these adaptations, French animation studio Fortiche, will focus on a new project unrelated to League of Legends, so any other projects are likely on hold.

In the meantime, Arcane Season 2 will premiere on November 2024.
