Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be getting zombies and some classic Modern Warfare 2 maps returning with a glow-up.
Activision has been getting creative with its marketing for Modern Warfare 3. After revealing that the series is bringing back slide cancels with a riddle sent to streamers, a mysterious phone number has revealed that Zombies will be coming in Modern Warfare 3.
YouTuber Jon “MrDalekJD” Hutchinson texted the number seen in the Modern Warfare 3 trailer. He texted the word “zombies” and got a reply containing the zombie emoji and a link to a zombie audio file stored on Activision’s official website.
While this wasn’t quite an official reveal, it all but confirmed that the popular game mode will be making a return. An official reveal followed shortly thereafter. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is shaking up to be a unique entry to the series, so the zombie reveal fits the theme.
Is there a Zombies mode in Modern Warfare 3?
Yes, there is a Zombies mode in Modern Warfare 3. This was strongly suggested in a YouTube video from MrDalekJD and was later confirmed by Activision. Activision states that the next Call of Duty game will have “the largest zombies offering to date.”
This is the first time a Modern Warfare game is getting a zombie mode. Previously, Treyarch has included the zombies mode in its Black Ops line of Call of Duty.
Sledgehammer Games is helming Modern Warfare 3. Its last Call of Duty, CoD: Vanguard, also featured a zombies mode. Infinity Ward-led Call of Duty games have the Spec Ops mode for PvE content. There is no information on whether Spec Ops will return to the game.
All Modern Warfare 2 maps will return in MW3
All 16 classic Modern Warfare 2 maps will be in MW3.
In the same vein as the Zombies reveal, texting the number seen in the reveal trailer also gave information on what maps will be featured in the game. Texting MW2 map names will yield a response in the form of back in the shape of map icons while texting other map names will result in no reply or an “End Transmission” text.
Long-time Call of Duty fans will likely be happy to see old maps return with modern polish. Maps like Afghan, Rust, and Terminal are regarded as some of the best Call of Duty maps ever made and should resonate well with veterans of the series.
Modern Warfare 3 is bringing back a number of fan-favorite features from previous games. Slide cancels and the old mini-map are set to be added alongside Zombies. The Modern Warfare 3 release date has already been revealed and the public beta will be arriving on PlayStation consoles before too long.
