Kai Cenat is in police custody due to a mass gathering stemming from a video game giveaway.
Popular YouTuber and top Twitch Streamer Kai Cenat was on vacation not long ago. The content creator was in Tokyo and had a good enough time that he lamented the fact that he had to return to the United States. Even still, he likely didn’t expect that he would be arrested shortly after his return.
The New York Police Department has taken Cenat into custody due to a mass gathering of his fans in Union Square. The gathering stemmed from a planned giveaway by Cenat that would have seen him give fans Best Buy gift cards and PlayStation 5 consoles.
Before prizes started getting handed out, the NYPD arrived and reportedly took action to disperse the crowd. Cenat seemingly appeared on Twitch as this unfolded and stated that the police had begun launching tear gas into the crowd. He then exited a bus and could be seen running with an entourage through a crowd of people before the broadcast cut out.
The gathering allegedly violates New York law and has Cenat potentially facing legal trouble. There are no reports of serious injuries. The NYPD estimated that 40 people were arrested surrounding the event.
