Marvel Rivals: Full guide on how to play Jeff the Land Shark

Jeff, the Land Shark Marvel Rivals Guide Cover

Jeff the Land Shark is a hero in Marvel Rivals in the strategist role who has an ultimate ability that will instantly kill opponents; here’s a guide on how to play him and where he fits within the game.

Heroes and villains who fit into the strategist role in Marvel Rivals are equivalent to support heroes in other games. They are usually healers whose main role is to ensure that everyone in their team is in full health. That’s not the case with Jeff, who can turn a fight around with his ultimate.

Jeff is labeled as one of the easy characters to play in Marvel Rivals. He has a 1-star difficulty rating, which means that he is easy to learn. But there are a few ways to use his abilities that might not be obvious at first glance.

Jeff, the Land Shark Marvel Rivals character guide

Jeff players will want to stay behind their teammates to heal them.

As a strategist, players will want to stay away from the middle of the firefight. Being in the middle of the firefight opens strategists to unnecessary danger. Despite being seemingly ferocious, Jeff is no different.

With this in mind, Jeff’s main role is to stay away from enemy fire and keep everybody topped up on health.

The only time that Jeff should be off this position is when he’s using his ultimate. Healing Bubbles should be placed near the Vanguards for easy access. If the Jeff player is confident in their aim, they can start throwing precise Healing Bubbles. This will allow them to rescue their tanks when they move into dangerous positions.

Make sure to use Jeff’s ultimate properly. If Jeff swallows two or more opponents, it’s safe to jump off the map since it’s a numbers advantage for your team. This can give Jeff’s team a window of opportunity for a counterattack.

Jeff, the Land Shark Abilities

Jeff’s abilities rotate around healing and mobility.

Just like other strategists, Jeff’s abilities mostly focus on supporting allies rather than harming enemies. He has a few healing tools and an ability that lets him get out when things start to fishtail out of control. Learning when and how to use these abilities properly will make the difference when playing Jeff.

Joyful Splash

Joyful Splash is Jeff’s primary fire ability but instead of shooting a projectile, it’s a healing ability that has a far reach. It looks and acts like a stream of water which can make it awkward to aim at times. It has an ammo count of 100 and uses 20 rounds per second when held down.

Aqua Burst

This ability is Jeff’s alt-fire ability, and is his go-to offensive option. It deals damage in a small area of effect. Since this move is a projectile rather than a hitscan gunshot, players will have to lead their shots.

Oblivious Cuteness

This is Jeff’s passive ability. It prevents Jeff from being one-shotted by headshots, considering that his head is pretty big. It’s a nice passive to have which negates the one-shot capabilities of Black Widow and Hawkeye.

Hide and Seek

This ability is Jeff’s primary escape option and it effectively turns him into a character from Splatoon. Hide and Seek lets Jeff dive into the ground and gain movement speed. This ability also heals Jeff slowly and allows him to wall climb, letting him reach spots that might be hard to reach.

While Jeff is in Hide and Seek, he can still be hit by opponents but his hurtbox is reduced. A trick to get Jeff out of dicey situations is to use Healing Bubble while still in Hide and Seek. Get the bubble for a speed boost and use Hide and Seek again to escape.

Healing Bubble

Healing Bubble is an area of effect healing ability, and is Jeff’s primary means of contributing to his team. Any friendly teammate, including Jeff, that gets hit by his healing bubble also gets a movement boost. This ability also increases the healing received by those who took it. If the healing bubble hits nobody during its initial cast, it will stay on the ground. Teammates can pick this up and receive the same buffs.

Jeff players can use Healing Bubble on an ally and then hit them with Joyful Splash to accelerate the healing they receive. This is particularly helpful for filling up the health bar of a wounded tank, or sustaining an ally as they make a risky play.

It’s Jeff!

This is Jeff’s ultimate ability and it can be devastating for the opposing team. This ability allows Jeff to dive into the ground and swallow all players in an area. If he swallows a player, they stay inside his stomach for about 5 seconds. Jeff can move around after using his ultimate.

This is where it gets spicy for Jeff’s ultimate. Having the ability to move around while carrying the enemy team inside of him is a huge ability. This displaces the enemy team and opens them up to suicide moves from the Jeff player. Falling off the map while carrying players will kill them, which can wipe out entire teams. Even if Jeff grabs just two enemies, that swings the odds in his team’s favor.

All of Jeff the Land Shark’s team-up abilities

Team-Up abilities are unique to Marvel Rivals. It’s a mechanic that unlocks additional abilities when certain team compositions are met. For Jeff, having Luna Snow and Groot on the team unlocks his team-up abilities.

Frozen Spitball

This team-up ability unlocks if Luna Snow is present in the team. Once Jeff activates Frozen Spitball, his right-click ability is changed from a water projectile to an ice projectile. This projectile deals more damage and leaves a freezing field which slows any opponents that stand on it.

New Friends

New Friends is a team-up ability that gets unlocked if Groot is in the party. This ability allows Jeff to ride on Groot’s shoulders while still being able to cast his abilities. Even if there is damage reduction included in the ability, being at the center of the firefight still makes it very risky for Jeff.
