Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection release date and games

Nintendo is bringing back classic fighting game goodness with the launch of Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection on Switch.

The Marvel vs. Capcom franchise has lied dormant ever since the disappointing launch of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. While the fourth entry proved fun from a gameplay perspective, it lacked the charisma and content from previous MvC titles. Many fans particularly criticized the absence of X-Men, arguably the reason for the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise’s existence in the first place. Since then, Capcom has focused solely on the development of Street Fighter, with the Marvel characters left to sort themselves out on cinema screens.

However, the June 2024 Nintendo Direct announced the return of classic Marvel vs. Capcom titles, much to the delight of fans.

When is the release date of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics?

Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics will launch in 2024.

For the first time in over a decade, several arcade classics from the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise will finally be playable alongside other iconic Marvel titles. Here’s the full list of games included in the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection.

  • X-Men: Children of the Atom
  • Marvel Super Heroes
  • X-Men vs. Street Fighter
  • Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter
  • Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes
  • Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes
  • The Punisher

All of these games are confirmed in the official announcement trailer. While it’s a victory for FGC fans to have classic Marvel vs. Capcom titles on a modern console, some wonder if the Switch will be its only home. After all, with companies slowly realizing the appeal of multiplatform releases for older titles, the arcade collection may have legs on modern consoles.

Will Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics be on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S?

Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics will not be on the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S on launch.  However, it will be on the PS4 and PC through Steam.

The Nintendo Direct trailer only showed Nintendo Switch as the platform for the arcade collection. Official Marvel vs. Capcom social media accounts later confirmed it would also be coming to PS4 and Steam. Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes understandably has the most people hyped given its cult classic status in the fighting game community.

Maximillian “Maximillian Dood” Christensen, a prominent FGC figure, famously pushed for re-releases of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 onto modern consoles after it was infamously delisted from online platforms in 2013. While the push unfortunately failed at the time, many fans consider a Switch port in 2024 a win, with PS4 and PC ports as a solid bonus. Still, many hope the port extends to other modern consoles sooner rather than later.
