It turns out there was a reason for Arcane Season 2 heavily spotlighting a character who isn’t even in the game yet. According to leakers, Riot Games will add Arcane heroine Mel Medarda as a playable champion to League of Legends in 2025.
When Arcane premiered in 2021, fans were familiar with almost all the main characters. One of the exceptions Mel Medarda, a Noxian heiress who wasn’t part of the game roster but worked alongside Jayce and romanced him along the way. When she reappeared in Season 2 in all her golden glory, fans began speculating that she might be the next LoL champion. Now, leakers are hinting that this theory might just be true.
Recently, Riot added Ambessa Medarda, Mel’s mother to the game. According to League of Leaks, Mel Medarda is next.
Arcane Season 2 wrapped up certain characters’ arcs, while setting up future storylines for others, including Mel Medarda. The season concluded with Mel confronting her mother, Ambessa Medarda, ultimately defeating her with Caitlyn’s help and delivering her to the Black Rose, a secretive Noxian organization.
However, Mel’s unexpected betrayal of the Black Rose hints at a deeper plot, potentially tied to one of Riot’s upcoming spin-off shows.
Arcane may hint at what Mel Medarda does in League of Legends
Thanks to her role in Arcane, League of Legends players likely already have a good idea of what Mel is capable of.
Mel transforms from a savvy politician to a mage in Arcane, and this is likely to translate to what she does LoL. Leakers are also convinced Mel will wield her magical powers in LoL, leaning towards utility-oriented mage midlane-support flex.
Mel could potentially serve as an enchanter support, drawing inspiration from the magical shields and disruptive abilities she uses in Arcane. Her kit could include protective shields, area-of-effect abilities rooted in Hextech technology, and defensive mechanics that reflect her protective and strategic nature. Players may have to wait a bit before getting definitive answers, but Ambessa and the leaked Viktor VGU show that Riot is pulling heavily from what’s shown on-screen.
Arcane was set in the twin cities of Piltover and Zaun, but the series wrapping with Season 2 may see new regions become the center of the storyline. Noxus may be planned as the central location for the series in future seasons since Mel appears to be traveling back home at the end of Season 2.
