New champion Ambessa’s abilities revealed in League of Legends

With Arcane Season 2 over the horizon, League of Legends is adding show-original character Ambessa to the main roster of champions and her abilities have now been revealed.

Without a doubt, Arcane introduced League of Legends lore to audiences who ordinarily would not care for the game. Years of being an internet punching bag, an example of toxic gaming culture, tends to turn away any potential lore fans for the game. Arcane’s fantastic story and animation convinced newcomers otherwise.

To further entice new players, League of Legends introduced elements of Arcane into the main game’s lore and cosmetics. Besides the controversially expensive Arcane Season 2 Jinx Skin coming out soon, Riot also unveiled Ambessa, the tough-as-nails Noxian mother of Mel Medarda.

League of Legends’ Ambessa abilities overview

Ambessa is an aggressive bruiser of a champion with plenty of mobility and toughness to sustain her damage-dealing melee assaults. Here’s a quick overview of what each of her abilities does.

Passive – Drakehound’s Step

After casting an ability, Ambessa will automatically dash upon moving or attacking. In addition, Ambessa gains a charge that increases attack range and speed until her next attack. Undoubtedly the foundation of Ambessa’s playstyle, Drakehound’s Step is all about pressure.

Whenever Ambessa jumps in with her active abilities, she immediately gets a boost in mobility, attack range, and speed. These boons should make Ambessa an excellent pursuer.

Q – Cunning Sweep/Sundering Slam

Ambessa swings her blades forward in an arc, dealing extra damage to those on its edge. Upon a successful hit, Ambessa readies Sundering Slam. Ambessa slams down her swords and deals bonus damage to the first enemy hit, and the skill reverts to Cunning Sweep.

The ability trades consistency for versatility, and players must know when to use the other. To compensate, the cooldown for the ability is short, meaning players won’t have to wait too long to use the other ability if they find it more useful.

W – Repudiation

Ambessa summons a shield, braces herself, and slams the ground after a short dash. If Ambessa blocks any damage from non-minions while bracing, the slam will deal extra damage. Repudiation will be a handy skill for jump-ins and initiating with the enemy.

E – Lacerate

Ambessa swings her twin drakehounds in a whirlwind of damage, slowing enemies caught in its spin. In practice, players will find it a useful ability for clearing hordes of non-minions. Interestingly, the ability can combine with Drakehound’s Step to give Ambessa a second strike after the dash.

R – Public Execution

As an active skill, Ambessa’s ultimate teleports to the enemy farthest from the action videos, slam them into the ground, and stuns them for a short time. Public Execution also grants passive boons like Armor Penetration and self-heals from using her abilities.

Ambessa will debut in League of Legends on November 6, 2024.
