According to new leaks, the first Metal Gear Solid remake is getting deeper into its development.
Per a report from Areajugones, the recreation of Metal Gear Solid has been in the works for some time now. An announcement was rumored to be coming in 2023. However, Konami instead officially announced working on other related projects, with a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake titled Metal Gear Solid Delta taking top priority for 2024.
Remakes of classic games help new players to experience those older adventures, and Konami has been ambitious about bringing certain remakes to newer gaming platforms. Hence, it’s no surprise that players want more information on the possibility of a proper MGS return.
What’s the status of the Metal Gear Solid remake?
According to reports, Konami has apparently been working actively on the development of the Metal Gear Solid remake. However, it is stated that this Hideo Kojima-led franchise is currently prioritizing the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, known as Metal Gear Solid Delta.
In 2023, Konami announced that it was working on several big projects, including a Master Collection featuring original versions of the series’ classic games and the Metal Gear Solid 3 Delta recreation. This announcement didn’t include the apparent MGS revitalization.

However, reports suggest that the company has actually been working on the first game’s new edition for quite a while, and that its official reveal could happen as early as 2024 after the release of MGS Delta. This bit comes from Konami stating that it’s open to remakes of other Metal Gear Solid titles after MGS Delta is released.
This possible new MGS game will reportedly only be released on PlayStation 5, and will not receive a prior-gen release on the PS4. This means that the rumored remake could be exclusive only to current-gen consoles.
There is no set release date yet for the game, and it’s possible that much about the game could still change, including its planned release platforms. A release on the PC remains a possibility.
This is all exciting news for fans of the franchise. The original trilogy of MGS games have now aged quite a bit, and the idea of being able to play each of them, with a Metal Gear Solid 2 revitalization also being whispered about, has those fans riled up and eager.
