The development of Season 2 of Netflix’s One Piece is in full swing and creator Eiichiro Oda gave a teaser of what’s coming for the show, allowing fans to gather which manga chapters will be included.
Live-action anime adaptations, especially from the West, tend to be met with suspicion by fans. After flops from Netflix like the 2017 Death Note film and 2021’s Cowboy Bebop series, fans feared for the adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s magnum opus. In a surprise twist, the series didn’t just avoid flopping; it garnered praise from both fans and critics. More importantly, it also managed to avoid cancelation, something even popular Netflix series have struggled to do.
The adaptation was among the most-watched series on the platform, garnering over 71 million views by mid-2023 and has seemingly renewed the service’s faith in live-action anime adaptations. Despite streamlining storylines, fans praised the staff’s dedication to staying true to the source material’s spirit, especially the main cast. With Season 2 in development, Oda gave fans a glimpse of what’s to come for One Piece.
What manga chapters will Netflix’s One Piece Season 2 adapt?
Netflix’s One Piece Season 2 will adapt chapters 96 to 154 of the manga.
These chapters cover the Loguetown, Reverse Mountain (Twin Cape), Whisky Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island arcs. In Oda’s special message, he shared his excitement over the upcoming season. Notably, Oda is transparent about how involved he is with the show.
Oda stated there is no “contractual” obligation for Netflix to follow his advice, but the company heeds it anyway. Given the poor reception to Netflix’s previous adaptations, which strayed significantly from the source material, fans seemingly appreciate the effort.
The creator also expressed excitement over the upcoming cast announcements. The cast announcements feature an array of up-and-comers and veteran character actors. None of the casting choices have been met with any controversy either, something that Netflix adaptations have historically experienced. Nonetheless, fans may want to catch up on those chapters of the One Piece manga before Season 2 arrives.

While most speculation puts the release date in 2025, Netflix has not officially given even a release window. Considering production just began in mid-2024, a long wait is likely.
While Season 2 adapts most of the Arabasta Saga, it seemingly ends right before the final story arc. The pacing fits with Season 1, which ended in Arlong Park, the penultimate arc of East Blue. Fans hope they don’t have to wait too long before seeing the new live-action chapter.
