New “FIFA killer” UFL is coming: release date, platforms revealed

UFL release date and platforms

A “FIFA Killer” game backed by Cristiano Ronaldo, UFL, has confirmed a release date, and football fans can’t wait to get their hands on it.

Once upon a time, the king of football games was the FIFA series, released annually by developer EA Sports. For over two decades, FIFA dominated the space thanks to its extensive licenses and lucrative microtransaction model. However, that all ended when EA Sports and FIFA disagreed on licensing fees. FIFA 23 became the unexpected last entry in the FIFA franchise.

Since then, several football games have tried to take the crown. EA released EA Sports FC, which retained much of FIFA 23’s licensed teams and leagues. Pro Evolution Soccer quickly gained steam for its realism and balance. Back in 2021, Strikerz Inc. dropped its first gameplay trailer for UFL, and it quickly picked up hype. In 2023, Strikerz Inc. surprised the world with a partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo, who has invested $40 million into the game.

Now, a release date has finally been confirmed for UFL.

When is the UFL release date?

UFL will launch on December 5, 2024, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The developers have had several open betas on those platforms since 2023. Many players praised the game’s graphics, impressive tactics, and how easy it is to play. Some veteran football gamers would have preferred the game to play more “realistically,” like the Pro Evolution Soccer series. Initially, the game was set to launch on September 2024, but the developers chose to polish the game even further, and aimed for a holiday release.

Still, the beta tests proved successful with over 1.5 million downloads during its first open beta weekend. As it stands, the game needs a bit more polish before it’s ready for the mainstream, but it won’t be long before it releases regardless.

Some PC players were disappointed at the lack of a PC port. After all, competitor EA Sports FC is featured on almost every modern platform.

As an up-and-comer, additional ports may come in the future for UFL if the game is successful. With investments from the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and the game’s potential success upon release, PC fans may not have to wait too long for a PC port.

Overall, UFL will need a lot of hype and genuinely good gameplay supporting it to take the football throne from EA Sports FC and others. With Ronaldo’s face on the cover, it’s already got a headstart in trying to pick up the crown FIFA 23 left behind.
