The new tea Pokemon Poltchageist is coming in the Teal Mask portion of the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC.
Fans knew that August 22 was going to result in some manner of announcement. During the 2023 Pokemon World Championships, a number of influencers took part in a tea ceremony organized by The Pokemon Company. As part of this, they were given a premium matcha tea set in a box that inexplicably had “8.22.2023” printed on it. This was teased further by a tweet from the official Pokemon account that included a green tea emoji.
The payoff for all those hints came with the reveal of Poltchageist. The matcha-themed Pokemon is an offshoot of Sinistea and will be a part of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s The Teal Mask DLC.
What is the typing of new tea Pokemon Poltchageist?
Poltchageist is a grass-ghost Pokemon and it is not a new evolution of Sinistea. Convergent forms are separate from regional variants and new evolutions, as they have similar names and appearances to previously discovered Pokemon but are completely separate species with their own Pokedex entries.
The first Pokemon of this nature were the Toedscool and Wiglet lines of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. They are separate from Paradox Pokemon, which are exclusively caught in a specific area and have higher base stats.
Will Poltchageist evolve?
It is likely that Poltchageist will evolve, but no evolution has been revealed. Despite its name, Poltchageist was seemingly confirmed as the convergent form of Sinistea and not its evolution Polteageist. This means that Poltchageist is likely to evolve into another different tea Pokemon.
Wiglet and Toedscool followed similar evolutionary paths to their previously established with Wugtrio and Toedscruel. This means that there will likely be an evolved form of Poltchageist, though it hasn’t been confirmed. Recently established precedent suggests that it will, but Game Freak could opt out of that. It’s also possible that Poltchageist could be the convergent form of Polteageist, with convergent Sinistea yet to be revealed.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC Part 1: The Teal Mask has a lot to offer alongside new Pokemon
Poltchageist is a small part of the large content offering of the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC. Game Freak has revealed a long list of new things coming in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. Alongside a variety of returning Pokemon, the DLC will add some hard-hitting new moves, new ways to handle stats, and a new Pokemon type. This is all in addition to a long list of other new Pokemon.
Though Munkidori, Fezandipiti, and Okidogi have gotten much of the spotlight for the first part of the Scarlet and Violet DLC, they’ve been outshone by some of the other reveals. New legendary turtle Pokemon Terapagos is a major part of the Pokemon Horizons anime, and the most talked-about new Pokemon is the Paradox forme of Raikou, Raging Bolt. Poltchageist has the potential to be popular, but there’s enough new content coming in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero that it’s hard to keep track.
Fans can look forward to catching this new tea Pokemon Poltchageist and many other Pokemon when the first part of the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC releases next month.
