Fighting game fans have been eagerly looking forward to yet another major release on the horizon, and it looks like the Tekken 8 release date is sooner than many expected.
The latest edition in the famous fighting game franchise from developer and publisher Bandai Namco has been hotly anticipated. Series producer Katsuhiro Harada has been making the rounds promoting the game, and a release date seemed to be on the horizon.
Now, thanks to an apparent leak from the Microsoft Store, fans have an idea of just when that release date might be.
When is the Tekken 8 release date?
According to this latest leak, the Tekken 8 release date is set for just after the start of the new year on January 26, 2024. That’s even sooner that many fans had anticipated, thinking the game might slip back towards spring of 2024. A January release means the new game would be just a few short months away.
The leak comes from information gleaned off of a Microsoft Store listing for the game. The listing, found on the Xbox website, showcased a January 26, 2024 release date for Tekken 8. Shortly after it was made public, the store page listing was promptly taken down. This quick removal lends more credibility to the leak’s legitimacy.
A late January release date would seem a good timing for Tekken 8. The summer of 2023 saw the release of the popular Street Fighter 6, and September 2023 will feature the release of Mortal Kombat 1, another highly-anticipated fighting game. By holding off on its release until January, Bandai Namco should ensure that plenty of attention is available for Tekken 8.
Harada angry over repeated leaks
Series producer Katsuhiro Harada has recently spoken out against a string of leaks surrounding Tekken 8, most of which have contained information about the game’s character roster and move lists. Harada has claimed to be narrowing in on the source of the leaks, and seeking punishment for the person or persons distributing the information early.
This latest leak is unlikely to please Harada given his recent statements in anger, but if it’s any consolation, the new leak doesn’t actually reveal any more information about the game. Instead, it’s all about the Tekken 8 release date.
Harada may have more harsh words for those peddling his game’s leaks, but he can at least be heartened by the knowledge that each leak seems to be further building anticipation for the new 3D fighting game.
