No Man’s Sky and the team at Hello Games continue to deliver on many of the lofty pre-release promises, and with the release of the Worlds Part 1 update in version 5.0, they may have surpassed them.

Introducing all-new environmental effects, a new Starship Troopers-inspired set of Expedition missions, and a host of “new technology, new flora, new fauna, and new gameplay,” this free update is a gift for new and returning players. It’s being dubbed a “Universe Refresh,” and it’s hard to disagree.

The No Man’s Sky Worlds Part 1 update features a long, long list of new additions and improvements. Here are the highlights, and what they have to offer players.

No Man’s Sky version 5.0 adds more diversity to planets with graphical upgrades

No Man’s Sky: Worlds Part 1 will add significant improvements to the environmental diversity of planets.

New “gravitational distortions” will make worlds more varied, with some planets having floating islands across their atmosphere. Seas, oceans, and lakes now produce realistic waves and, coupled with the new dynamic wind system that affects everything from the fauna to the clouds, huge storms can form. Oh, and ships can now land on the water.

All this is backed up with a graphical overhaul. Performance improvements are also waiting, including the inclusion of DLSS 3.0 for those sporting a supported Nvidia graphics card.

There are a ton of new things for players to discover including over 40 new cooking recipes. Coupled with the space station-overhaul Orbital update of March, players who have stepped away from the game for a few months are set to return to a load of new content.

No Mans Sky Liquidators

No Man’s Sky: Worlds Update bringing Helldivers 2-style bug-killing missions

The launch of No Man’s Sky version 5.0 will come alongside the start of a bug-hunting expedition.

Helldivers 2 reminded gamers how much fun it is to hunt down bugs. Now, No Man’s Sky is getting in on the action.

Expedition 14: Liquidators, will begin shortly and run for approximately six weeks. This expedition invites players to join the force of the Liquidator Vanguard as they seek to purge the universe of biological horrors old and new, including the infestations of the vile brood. Though this expedition in No Man’s Sky: Worlds lacks the satirical fascist propaganda, the grandiosity of the event is a clear shout-out to Helldivers.

No Man’s Sky Expedition 14: Liquidators rewards

Players will be tasked with destroying as many giant arthropods as possible in a bug hunt of a “galactic” nature. Completing this mission will come with rewards, including the following:

  • Mounted bug trophies to hang in outposts
  • A selection of posters for outposts
  • A unique arthropod-themed jetpack with matching armor
  • Pieces of the new Liquidator Heavy Exomech Hybrid

Among the enhancements available to the Liquidator Mech is a bespoke flamethrower unit, perfect for heavy damage at close range. As players make progress in the expedition, the Liquidator Mech will become available at the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion for those unable to take part.

Customizable solar-class ships arrive in No Man’s Sky: Worlds Update

Solar-class ships will be fully customizable after No Man’s Sky version 5.0 releases.

No Man Sky’s solar-class ships are some of the most sought-after in the games. That’s thanks to their unique Vesper Sail technology, which slowly recharges launch thrusters at no cost, making them perfect for long explorations in deep space.

Now, they are set to get even better, as they are now fully customizable. Using the Starship Fabricator, players can not only build one from scratch, but can also swap and change everything from the cockpit to the wings. Like other ship classes, customization also extends to the aesthetics, with players able to choose different color schemes for the various parts.
