Fans worldwide are anxiously awaiting Phantom Blade Zero, and while there are ample details about the game’s gameplay, the same can’t be said about its release date.
Phantom Blade Zero’s initial reveal during the May 2023 PlayStation reveal had action fans excited. Taking a unique approach and showing the game’s combat and exploration instead of giving a generic cutscene trailer, the game’s fast-paced action and interesting character designs captivated the attention of many.
However, while the trailers have given more than enough gameplay footage, the release date details largely remain a mystery. Fortunately, a known YouTuber may have narrowed the release window the developer is aiming for.
What is Phantom Blade Zero?
Phantom Blade Zero is an upcoming ARPG reminiscent of games like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Nioh.
The game takes a more cinematic approach than most games, making it similar to Ghost of Tsushima in that aspect. However, Phantom Blade Zero’s dark and eerie setting is contrary to Sucker Punch’s 2020 game.
Developed by Sharpman Studio, better known as S-Studio, this isn’t the first game in the Phantom Blade series. Phantom Blade Zero is related to Phantom Blade: Executioners, the free-to-play game available on mobile devices, PC, and PS5, as they both take place in the same fictional “Phantom World.”
Fans know what to expect from Phantom Blade Zero’s story thanks to the official anime-style trailer. Players fill the shoes of Soul, an elite assassin serving a powerful organization called “The Order.”
Soul gets gravely injured and subsequently healed by an unknown healer through a curse. The catch is the curse only lasts 66 days, giving the assassin that much time to take revenge on his enemies.
Phantom Blade Zero release date
Phantom Blade Zero’s release date is unknown, the internal expectation is that the game will have a 2026 release date.
This information comes from JorRaptor, a YouTuber who covers gaming news. Phantom Blade Zero’s initial reveal was in 2023, but development on the game kicked off in 2022. A four-year development cycle would make sense, although a 30-minute demo is supposed to come out sometime in 2024.
As for the platforms, only the PS5 and PC versions were confirmed. It’s unknown if the game will come to Xbox or Nintendo platforms. While it isn’t formally an exclusive, Phantom Blade: Executioners is only playable on the PlayStation 5 for console players. This suggests the same may be true for Phantom Blade Zero.
