The PS5 Pro’s release date remains a mystery, but some worry it won’t be released until 2025.
The PlayStation 5 Pro’s existence has been well-known in the industry. While Sony hasn’t officially announced the upgraded PS5 console, several figures in the industry have reported its existence. In early 2024, reports found that Sony handed out test kits of the console to several PlayStation 5 developers.
Reports also found details on the PS5 Pro’s specs, and it showcased exciting features that push graphical fidelity to new limits. The upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine will reportedly have AI upscaling, a feature not found in the base PS5. With so many new features and the holidays over the horizon, many hope a release date comes sooner rather than later. However, some people are worried the PS5 Pro won’t debut in 2024, or potentially at all.
Is the PlayStation 5 Pro release date delayed to 2025?
Reports claim the PS5 Pro will launch in late 2024, but it could be delayed to early 2025.
Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson previously reported a Holiday 2024 release window. Reports from GiantBomb and CNBC also corroborate these claims, citing a late 2024 release. As the holiday season approaches, Sony still hasn’t announced the console. On X, one user asked Henderson if Sony would announce the PS5 Pro during Gamescom 2024.
“If it releases this year,” was the response from Henderson, which prompted many of his followers to ask more questions. As of this writing, he did not follow up on the post’s meaning.
Some speculate this means the release date for PS5 Pro has shifted to more closely align with Grand Theft Auto 6’s release date, which is in the second half of 2025. Others think or hope Henderson was joking and calling out Sony’s silence on the PS5 Pro despite its existence being well-known in the industry. Either way, the lack of an announcement does leave PlayStation fans frustrated.
A late 2024 release could give developers of 2025 releases ample time to polish for the newest generation. However, it could potentially hamper the PS5 Pro’s sales, as fewer first-party titles are launching for the PlayStation 5 during the Holiday 2024 season. An early 2025 release would give the console more games on launch. Regardless, the PS5 Pro’s launch may set the pace for the games industry moving forward.
