Release date confirmed for Netflix’s Devil May Cry animated series

Dante from Devil May Cry on Netflix

Netflix just dropped a teaser trailer for a Devil May Cry anime and fans might have hit the jackpot, especially with the release date fairly soon.

The Devil May Cry series is rightfully one of Capcom’s most beloved franchises. No other game in the character action genre has the longevity, creativity, and sheer style of Devil May Cry. Although it’s been over five years since the last entry, the fandom remains alive as ever.

The series isn’t just limited to the confines of consoles. A 2007 series, animated by Madhouse Studio, ran for 12 episodes, though met with a mixed reception. One of the primary complaints was the lack of more high-octane action scenes, a valid concern for character action game fans.

Capcom has a second chance to bring Dante to animated life with the Netflix series.

When is the release date of the Devil May Cry animated series on Netflix?

Devil May Cry will premiere on Netflix in April 2025.

The teaser trailer showcased Dante in multiple action scenes, enjoying the carnage with childish glee. Notably, the series focuses on a young Dante, instead of the not-so-grizzled veteran of Devil May Cry V. Fans of Devil May Cry 3 will appreciate a return to the pizza-loving delinquent of the early 2000s.

The series will be animated by Studio Mir, best known for works like The Legend of Korra, The Boondocks, and X-Men ’97. The showrunner, Adi Shankar, has also worked on Dredd and Netflix’s Castlevania. As for the story, eagle-eyed fans noted potential connections to the Alice in Wonderland arc in the manga.

Will Vergil appear in Devil May Cry on Netflix?

Vergil will eventually appear in Netflix’s Devil May Cry alongside other iconic characters.

Shankar also confirmed plans for “multi-season arcs” for the series in past interviews, like Netflix’s Castlevania. As for the series canon status, that remains up in the air, though it’s very likely canon. The inclusion of manga elements showcases a commitment to exploring more than just the game narratives.

After all, Capcom has never explicitly said the existing Devil May Cry manga and anime weren’t canon. Whether the events in the Netflix series will pop up in new Devil May Cry games remains a question for future gamers.
