Leaks suggest the long-awaited Persona 6 will focus heavily on DLC and post-release content, setting it apart from other entries in the series.
The Persona series is one of the most successful single-player JRPG franchises around. With a focus on character depth, coupled with stylish combat and memorable soundtracks, many would argue the Persona series single-handedly put Atlus on the map. Fans have their sights set on the next mainline entry with Persona 3 Reload wrapping up with the Episode Aigis DLC.
While Sega hasn’t given fans any details other than confirmation that Persona 6 is in development, fans have some information to go on. With things like Persona 6’s color and estimated release date leaked, an X user claims the game might switch up how the series tackles DLC and post-release content.
Will Persona 6 have DLC?
Persona 6 will reportedly have multiple DLCs ranging from character cosmetics to expansions.
Persona games typically have multiple purchasable DLCs. Most are purely cosmetic collaborations with different IPs or they offer access to unique items or Personas that can be used in-game. However, separately purchasable expansions are relatively new, starting from Persona 3 Reload expansion pass. This pass included a set of background music, costumes for the party, and the Episode Aigis epilogue chapter.
It seems Persona 6 will follow in Persona 3 Reload’s footsteps according to X user p0wyful. They state both Persona 6 protagonists will have various purchasable cosmetics, and the game will have a sizeable expansion separate from the main game.
What’s more, the former Persona leaker Midori co-signed this Persona 6 leaks. While the former Midor had to rebrand thanks to their false identity and doxxing, they had a proven record of accurately leaking things related to Persona like whether Akechi and Kasumi would be in Persona 5 Tactica.
How long will Atlus support Persona 6?
According to the same user, there are around three years of support planned for Persona 6.
Persona 6 will reportedly have an expansion pass players can purchase to acquire some of the DLC. It’s also said that the expansion pass will not cover all of the DLC, although it’s unknown how Atlus will price the expansions and DLC. It’s unknown if the special edition will have exclusive content or if the DLC and expansions will cover all the post-release content.
This marks a major break from Persona tradition. In the past, the series hasn’t had a major DLC component. Instead, Persona 3, 4, and 5 all had an enhanced re-release in Persona 3 FES, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal. Each added extra content during the main game, alongside an epilogue chapter.
Whether Persona 6 will function in this way, or whether Atlus will move in a different direction is uncertain.
