Catching specific fish is one of the most arduous parts of rebuilding the community center in Stardew Valley, so how should players handle the tiger trout?
One of the worst feelings in gaming might just be missing out on something in Stardew Valley. The realization can be crushing when players miss out on growing a season-specific crop or catching a certain fish. The tiger trout can be one of these offenders.
As such, players need to make sure they catch one when they have the opportunity. The fish is part of the standard roundup of community center bundles, so it’s worth catching one when the opportunity presents itself.
How to catch a tiger trout in Stardew Valley
Tiger trouts can be caught from the river during the daytime in the fall and winter seasons. In terms of the timing, players need to catch one between 6 am and 7 pm. It’s one of a few different season-exclusive fish players need to catch, alongside the tilapia, and eels.
As a river fish, players have a few different options for where to catch it, most of which are within Pelican Town. The best method for catching one is to take the mine cart to Clint’s forge first thing in the morning. From there, it’s just a short run west to the riverbank. Cast the line into the river and hope for the best.
Tiger trouts aren’t especially rare, but have one of the more frustrating behavior patterns in the game, jumping around rapidly. They’re not nearly as difficult to catch as the always-challenging Legendary fish, but it can be frustrating.
The fall and winter seasons give Stardew Valley players some time to catch a tiger trout, but missing one is absolutely brutal. If players don’t catch one before the end of winter, they’ll have to simply wait all the way through spring and summer in order to try again. Either that or they’ll need to get creative.

How to get a tiger trout if you missed catching one
Players have two different options for getting a tiger trout if they missed catching one in the fall or winter. Both involve RNG help from secret shops.
First, Krobus has the chance to sell tiger trouts on Wednesdays. The fish isn’t guaranteed to appear, though. Tiger trouts are one of 11 different possible items to appear in the shop on that day, so players have roughly a 9% chance of getting one each Wednesday. There isn’t a way to effectively save scum this, either.
The other option is the traveling cart. This shop appears in the woods south of the farm on Fridays and Sundays. It also appears during the Night Market and Desert Festivals.
Once again, tiger trouts aren’t guaranteed to appear in the traveling cart and the odds aren’t particularly favorable. The fish is one of hundreds of possible items that could appear in the cart. Similar to Krobus, there’s no effective means of manipulating RNG to get the fish.
Unfortunately, the best way to get a tiger trout in Stardew Valley is indeed fishing one out of the water.
