Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the next big installment in the iconic Nintendo franchise, and it will allow players to do some wacky stuff outside the Mushroom Kingdom with its most iconic characters.
It has been a long time since the last 2D Mario game release. The most recent standalone 2D platformer for the iconic character came out in 2013 with Mario 3D World for the Nintendo Wii U. This is likely an exciting time for Nintendo, with its iconic character poised to star in one of the final major releases for its highly successful console.
With the welcoming of a new Mario experience, there are many questions to be asked and answered. In previous trailers during Nintendo Directs, many beloved Mario characters were shown, but how many of them are playable in Super Mario Bros. Wonder?
What characters can players play as in Super Mario Bros. Wonder?
Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Daisy, Toad, Toadette, Nabbit, and Yoshi are set to be playable characters in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
The selection of characters available to players is actually even larger than that. Players have access to two different colors of Toad, including blue and yellow. There are also variants of Yoshi as well. Nabbit will also be a part of the group of opinions for players to choose from.
With the different colors of Toad and Yoshi, there will be a total of 12 different characters that are playable through the levels of Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
Will Super Mario Bros. Wonder have DLC?
Super Mario Bros. Wonder may add more characters to the game as DLC.
In games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, new characters and maps have been added via DLC. However, could this be the case for Super Mario Bros. Wonder?
Mainline Mario games have traditionally not included paid DLC, but have released free content updates that have added characters. Mario Odyssey released a free content update that included Luigi and new outfits for Mario. It’s possible Super Mario Bros. Wonder could do the same and add characters such as Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, or Geno from the upcoming Super Mario RPG Remake.
That being said, there has been no discussion of post-launch content for Super Mario Bros. Wonder from Nintendo. With the Nintendo Switch 2 reportedly coming out in a year, it’s possible Nintendo may allocate its development resources elsewhere or potentially sit on any post-release content until later.
