The Scarlet and Violet era of the Pokemon TCG grinds forward, and the company may be looking to reignite fan interest after the influencer bubble popped. The Pokemon Company is going about it in a great way with the Pokemon TCG: Scarlet & Violet 151 expansion. The full set list is absolutely enormous, with over 200 cards including a new card for each generation-one Pokemon.

Naturally, fans are beside themselves with excitement as this will mean the introduction of a new Charizard-ex card. Here are all the details on the Pokemon TCG: Scarlet & Violet 151 expansion including its release date, full set list, and more.

Pokemon TCG: Scarlet & Violet 151 expansion release date

The Pokemon TCG: Scarlet & Violet 151 expansion will be released on September 22, 2023, with a number of premium sets and collector boxes coming out in the following weeks.

The Pokemon Company is pulling out all the stops when it comes to releasing promotional items for this expansion. Alongside the traditional packs and Elite Trainer Box will be a new set of Poke Ball tins, a poster collection with promo cards for each starter, a binder collection, and the 151 Booster Bundle which comes with six booster packs.

That’s not all, though. An Alakazam-ex-ex Box and Zapdos-ex box will drop on October 6. Alongside these will be a set of 10 mini tins containing a promotional card, a random coin themed after one of the different types of energy, and two booster packs. Finally, the Scarlet & Violet 151 Ultra-Premium Collection will also be released on October 6 featuring a Mew-themed deck box, play mat, coin, and damage counter dice. The Ultra-Premium Collection will have two special promo cards for Mew-ex and Mewtwo.

The 151 set was released in Japan on June 16 and as such, fans already know what cards are available, what they do, and how they will impact competitive players. The Japanese expansion had over 200 cards in total, but the international releases will differ slightly. Because so many cards are set to be released as promo cards, the number of cards available in the set will drop below 200. Still, there will be a lot of cards to collect for completionists.

New Pokemon TCG expansion adds Charizard-ex card

The chase card for this set will likely be Charizard-ex, which is set to have three different versions in the Pokemon TCG 151 expansion. The card will have a normal version alongside the standard secret rare version. The card that will likely go down as the priciest of the bunch is the special art rare version which was numbered 201/165 in Japan.

Charizard Ex

Charizard has traditionally inhabited a unique place in the Pokemon TCG as having the most expensive cards without actually being especially relevant in the competitive meta. This applies to both standard Charizard cards as well as the various versions with rule boxes. This Charizard-ex card could potentially change that, though.

Charizard-ex has two attacks that are both exceptionally powerful. For one fire energy, it deals 60 damage or 160 if it has any damage counters on it. Its second attack requires four fire energy cards but deals a whopping 330 damage, which is enough to knock out almost any card in the current standard rotation. This could make Charizard a serious addition to the Pokemon TCG meta.
