These are the best weapons to use in Silent Hill 2 Remake

Chainsaw in Silent Hill 2 Remake

The Silent Hill 2 Remake highlights combat more than the original game ever did, but which weapons are the best weapons to use for surviving Silent Hill?

To the surprise of many fans, the Silent Hill 2 Remake did not turn out to be a disaster. After Silent Hills: Ascension’s aggressive monetization and the ill-advised combat trailer for the Silent Hill 2 Remake, many fans worried about the franchise’s future. Nobody wanted another Metal Gear: Survive situation from Konami.

Bloober Team overcame many of its critics and released a remake that stands on its own two feet. While it’s not necessarily a replacement for the original, the Silent Hill 2 Remake capably sculpted its own version of James Sunderland’s nightmare. One noticeable change is to Silent Hill 2 Remake’s combat, something the players universally agree is better than the original.

The weapons of Silent Hill 2 Remake still feel familiar, albeit with a bit more active player involvement than before.

What is the best melee weapon in Silent Hill 2 Remake?

The chainsaw is the best melee weapon in the Silent Hill 2 Remake. There are only three melee weapons in the entire game. Sadly for fans of the OG, Pyramid Head’s Great Knife does not return as a weapon for James. In the meantime, players make do with the rip-roaring chainsaw.

Players can only find the chainsaw on a New Game+ playthrough, near the front gate of the Silent Hill Ranch. Silent Hill 2 Remake encourages players to replay the game after their first ending, much like the original. On top of previous knowledge of the game, players can now find the chainsaw, which one-shots most non-boss enemies.

What is the best gun in Silent Hill 2 Remake?

The hunting rifle is the best gun in the Silent Hill 2 Remake. Only three guns exist in the Silent Hill 2 Remake: the handgun, shotgun, and hunting rifle. Of the three, the hunting rifle works best for the remake’s brand of methodical combat. The handgun has ammo aplenty, but it takes half a clip to knock down minor enemies. The shotgun packs more power, but lacks in range.

The hunting rifle offers range, accuracy, and one-shot capabilities. Although slow to reload, that’s just the pace of the remake’s combat. Save up your ammo for boss fights, as much like shotgun ammo, it’s rare in the world of Silent Hill 2.
