Throne and Liberty: Best tank classes and which to choose

throne and liberty tank

Tanks in Throne and Liberty soak up damage for their party mates and some of them do it better than others, but which classes are the best in this role?

There are a plethora of classes in Throne and Liberty. The game has seven weapons and each player is allowed to wear a combination of two weapons. This will dictate what kind of class and role they’re going to fulfill in the party.

As a tank, the best main-hand weapon is going to be the sword and shield, but what’s the best secondary weapon to complete the character?

Best tank classes in Throne and Liberty

The two best weapon combinations for tanks in Throne and Liberty combine sword and shield with either a wand or a greatsword. As with everything from Monster Hunter to Dungeons and Dragons, sword and shield offers tanks the ability to soak up damage, while the secondary weapon offers other perks. Here’s what these classes offer, and what weaknesses need to be covered.

Sword and shield + wand tank

The Sword and shield with wand tank variant in Throne and Liberty is a defensive wall that a player should go for if they enjoy the teamwork part of tanking. One reason for this is that it’s virtually unkillable in certain content, especially with the right gear.

As mentioned earlier, sword and shield is the foundation of a tank build in Throne and Liberty. Sword and shields have skills that draw aggro and keep it, which is essential as a tank. This is very important in PvE content as one of the tank’s main duties is to wrangle whole mobs and keep everyone alive by ensuring no stray mobs will attack party members. Of course, this also applies to bosses.

Here’s where the wand comes in clutch.

Tanks often rely on support players for healing which can make them vulnerable if they’ve been paired with a support player who’s easily overwhelmed. A tank equipped with a wand as a secondary weapon makes the lives of supports much easier.

Wands allow players to heal themselves, which is the main reason why a player will want to take this weapon as secondary. A tank that also knows how to keep their HP up by using damage mitigation skills like Stalwart Bastion and Blessed Barrier and heals like Swift Healing is a great asset to parties. Not only do they have a tank but they also have a secondary support player.

The big downside of this weapon combination is that it lacks damage compared to other classes, which can make defeating mobs a chore.

Sword and shield + greatsword tank

The sword and shield with greatsword variant of tank in Throne and Liberty is best for players looking for a more balanced approach to tanking.

Sword and shield combined with a greatsword turns a Throne and Liberty tank into a decent damage dealer while still having great survivability. This class is basically a barbarian class which enables them to boost their party’s max HP and attack speed.

One of the reasons to take this over the Sword and shield with and is that you want more damage in exchange for healing. Skills like DaVinci’s Courage and Blood Devotion allow tanks to protect the party and specifically support by taking large amounts of damage. Aside from this, most of the skills that a sword and shield with greatsword tank has deal more damage than the prior tank mentioned.

However, one thing that players who use this combination should be worried about is the lack of healing. While they do a lot more damage, this doesn’t mean that they can survive for as long as a sword and shield with wand tank. They are definitely squishier and can be vulnerable once the party’s support is dead.
