A new trailer has revealed a slew of details for Dragon’s Dogma 2 including gameplay changes, its release date, and story.
While it long seemed like Dragon’s Dogma was set to be another one-and-done game from Capcom similar to Okami or God Hand, that wasn’t the case. Ideas for a sequel had been knocking around director Hideaki Itsuno’s mind since 2013, and an official announcement of the game’s development came in June 2022. Fans were beside themselves when they actually got a look at the game.
The debut trailer came during PlayStation Showcase and while excitement was high, there were still plenty of questions about when the game would come out and what it would have to offer. Thankfully, Capcom delivered an entire presentation on Dragon’s Dogma 2, revealing the release date and updates to the gameplay, as well as some details on the story.
There’s plenty of reason to be excited for the upcoming action-RPG. On top of being a cult classic in its own right, Capcom hasn’t missed a beat in the past few years, churning out smash-hit games. Dragon’s Dogma 2 looks to continue that trend with its epic story and gameplay.
What is Dragon’s Dogma 2’s story?
In Dragon’s Dogma 2, the player will take on the role of an Arisen, trapped in the conflict of two rival nations.
Vermund, the human kingdom, lies in the middle of all this struggle, thanks to the machinations of the queen regent Disa, who has put a false Arisen on the throne. While both sides of the war hate each other, there’s a unanimous fear of dragons among them.
The long-awaited character creator was also revealed in the showcase. With the photorealistic edge of the RE Engine, there’s set to be an incredible graphical upgrade relative to the original game. Fans hope that it’s even better than Monster Hunter World’s impressive character creator. If Street Fighter 6’s character creator is any indication, there’s a strong chance that this is the case.
Are there new classes in Dragon’s Dogma 2?
Some new monsters and classes are confirmed for Dragon’s Dogma 2.
The Talos, a gargantuan warrior made of brass, makes its way into the menagerie of monsters for Dragon’s Dogma 2. As with the first game, there are a plethora of ways for players to take on this new foe. Whether it’s leaping onto its back a la Attack on Titan or hit-and-run tactics while riding massive birds, player freedom is the name of the game.
Alongside previously revealed classes, fans also got to know the Trickster. With its focus on illusions, this class is a sideline support, strengthening pawns while staying out of direct danger. The Trickster joins other confirmed classes fighter, archer, thief, mage, magick archer, and mystic spearhand in the sequel. The previously leaked release date for Dragon’s Dogma 2 was also confirmed by Capcom.
